In reference to all members of this forum, please share your opinion if women have a place in Kendo. I'm asking Hamish to make a poll for the ocasion.

Just go away. It's a non-issue.

how about a poll to see how many of us would like Alex and Hamish to terminate you from the boards?...

There's no need for a poll man, lighten up.
My girlfriend is a kendoka. She might lack sheer power but who cares? "Kendo is not sumo"

Dude...whats with you and women?...

I agree with don_lobu. Women have no place in kendo.

I mean, do you know how embarrasing it is to lose to some tiny Japanese girl? It's just painful on the ego. They're just so fast, calm and beautiful to look at. I should be able to knock these girls down in nothing flat but they just do oji waza or some such stuff and get ippon. Why can't they just hack away like everybody else? All they do is make me look bad.

My sempai is a girl and I have to listen to her give me pertinent advice about my kendo . Talk about embarrasing. Like I need advice from a girl. What does she know besides how to fight properly? Nothing, that's what. It's not like she's giving me cleaning and cooking lessons.

They don't take shiai seriously either. They treat it as if it's not a life or death situation (which it obviously is).
Plus they're attractive: How dare they be so bloody distracting! And they handle things like ordering hakama and gi from Tokyo because most of us don't speak Japanese. I just hate that.

Kendo would be much more fun without women.

alexpollijr. : You stole my quote! (I stole it from my sensei but who's counting. His exact words were: "This is kendo. No sumo!"). I hope that sentence becomes famous (probably not the first time it was uttered though...)

It sounds like don_lubo is over-compensating for something,

Hey don - did you ever get caught trying on your mother's bra and panties when you thought you were alone in the house?

er.. not that there's anything wrong with that of course...

I have a piece of advice for everyone who is sick of hearing about stuff like this, there is an ignore list, I for one am using it!

Don Lubo,

This is ALEX. There will be no such poll created on this forum. We have had a number of complaints about your postings. As I said, everybody is entitled to their opinions, but this is not the place for sexism or racism for that matter. This is a WARNING. Any more complaints and you will be removed.

What's with you?Why all the angst against women in kendo. It's not fair to label kendo as a man's sport only. Were you breastfed when you were young? Why raise your sword against them.Do you find them much talented than you.I smell danger here.

Come on guys, the guy is obviously a troll, and not a particularly good one. He's probably some pimply little fourteen year old who giggles and claps his hands as he presses the submit button on what he feels is the wittiest thing since Wilde (even though he has no clue who Wilde was).
Kendo chick has a good point - the killfile is good.
Being a mysogynist, while not illegal, won't win you any friends.
Trolls tend to feed on response - its the whole A.D.D thing. Best to skip to the highest form of flaming - the flame of no flame.

Ares,

that's slick, i like that. "the flame of no flame."
<goof>
is this some kind of zen concept? if so, i might get into that zen thing after all.

hey alexM, it's true that some of us just do kendo for fun and we don't want to become samurai in the future (like you do, maybe). it's true that sometimes we don't take shiai seriously but whatever, who cares? it shouldn't be a problem for you (or your ego is damn too big). I think we have enough guts to fight people like you. Nyway, i would be happy to go tell evryone about what u think of your sempai.... BTW, you weren't there on saturday... cya

BTW i think, don_lubo, that you should keep your racist ideas for you. Keep your own problems for you, no one really cares about everyone's life.

Are women a seperate race?
I suppose the position is arguable ;-)

Confound - I must admit that the line is not original. It comes from a 'flaming etiquette' post I saw on a newsgroup a while back. Tried to find the link using google, but searching for anything with the word flame in it is a bit of a non-event.
Essentially when one attains a certain level of flaming, trolls will post, then send abusive emails etc to you demanding to know why you did not respond. This is the flame of no flame. Powerful is the jedi who weilds this weapon.

Saki, I think AlexM was being ironic.... which translates badly to text, but that is what I thought at least. :)

After this weekend I am atleast sure that the guys in my part of the world don't show me any mercy just because I happen to be a girl... we had a trainingcamp this weekend and I am so very blue.... and not from indigo but from bruises. My next kendorealted purcase will be a koteprotector!
it was very fun though and I learned lots!

I was actually being sarcastic not ironic....I think, I'm never sure about that kind of thing. Suffice it to say that I wasn't serious. I was mocking through agreement (when I agree with someone he/she MUST be wrong).

For the record:
I adore my female sempai (you know who). She's still my favorite instructor.

I like all the girls in kendo (for various reasons), even those that flame me.

If women have no place in kendo than neither do I.
Hope that clears things up.

Oh, I knew AlexM wasn't really serious, he's just a bit weird. He's very handsome (a bit too much) :) I just like to argue with him and max. I like to tease them ^-^ like kiai-ing really high when doing keiko with them.
I think every kendoka should be equal. It's no reason to fight more lightly with women and not with men. The good reasons to fight more lighty are:1- your opponent is a beginner, 2- your he/she is wounded...
nyway, I think we should stop posting in this post because we're saying nonsense things...

I don't know about the rest of the guys here, but I've met/seen a few women who could wipe the floor with me. If women are just as good as men (which they are) then how can there be no place for them?

Think before you type. It will save all of us time and effort if you just f**k off.

and, so like, there was this, like, bear? And like, it came to kendou? And like, we were all like, "A bear? Huh? Like, what?" So, like the bear was all into kendou, and like, it was a san dan, and stuff? But, you know, like, it was totally just not cool. It was so huge, and we were like, so small? It was so not cool. So, like i'm wondering if bears have a place in kendou? 'Cause, like, I don't want that bear in my dojo, like you know?

</mockery>

Someone give me a prize for foolishness.
