Cordial greetings.

The reason of my message is to request him in the most attentive way the necessary requirements to be able to enter to the International Budo University, I reside in the city of Mexico and I am kendo practitioner, I would thank them a lot its answer.

Do a search on International Budo University. There is a big thread on that topic. kendokamax is or was a student there.

You need maybe 500,000 yen or so for fees, but that usually comes back in scholarships. If you go, go for kendo, don't go to learn Japanese, IBU sucks as far as learning anything beyond kendo practice goes. A forum search will get you more info.

No,max is right, she is freakin nuts.....and after spending 4 months in here listening to her...and her friends....and dealing with certain elements within the office....one might say that most the students are going nuts as well....

Reqs for Budai ?
Have cash, willing to travel, previous experience in Kendo or Judo, willingess to deal with people from a totally different culture.
You can learn anything here, as long as you have the will to do so. You want japanese ? Shodo/Sado/Iaido/flower arrangments ? Its all here.

I mean i spent around that much money during the whole year, air ticket, food, fun, loging etc,.

how it works in details: (I will use CAN $)

7000 $ that you must send to the school for schooling fees, about 4 months before going (begining of january).

these 7000$ will come back as a form of scholarship every months, so something like 600 $ per month. With that 600 $ you will have to pay the logging fees which is about 200$. (that means you have about 400$ per months for food etc) Which I think is not enough for having a normal life (except if you never buy anything extra than food, and would never go to tokyo etc..) So my parents used to send me 200 $ extra per month.

In a day that I would spend a lot of money on food =
(morning) 300 yen
(hiru) 600 yen
(yoru) 700 yen
------
1600 yen x 30 = 48000 yen
which is about 600 $ , you can save up by making your own meal like spagethi which would only comes to about 280 yen for a good meal.

Then the air plane ticket wich is about 1200$.

so that means : 800 * 12 = 9600
+ 1200
--------
10800

Ya you can get a job easely if you are a native english speaker. Like teaching to kids , but you will most likely have to skip one practice per week if you do that. I didnt have a job :s

Sorry... I only visited there couple of times when my kohai was there 2-3 yrs ago. (katura was captain then and there were a Dutch, Belgium, and German guys there who all made to their national team)

FYI, I did not climb that nasty hill, I took taxi :)
Even 3am, I refused to walk and bartender at the bar miraclulously found taxi for me. Night of Katsuura dies after 11pm... you know.....

I have learned Kendo since I was 6yrs up to high school, and College, and then Japanese Defense force. Visited Police Dojo all the time, and so on.

I used to pee red to black. Means I was peeing blood sometimes.

Anybody want to go Japan to learn kendo, and if you are thinking to do Kendo in college. You should think that kendo is your life. If you did not do kendo, you feel like you miss your dinner, you might want to learn Kendo in college. (Not all college, BuKatu in College is hard, but not Club.)

It is Crazy! I think so now. I did not know better. I thought Kendo is my life task, so no matter how I am suffering in Kendo practice; I thought I have to go to practice. When I had a minor cold, I went to practice.

If you are rich person, I will recommend to go to some good traditional Dojo.

It is hard practice still, but it is not Crazy!

You have to be Crazy to practice Kendo in some college in Japan. And I was one of them.

My uncle went to college in both Oosaka (to learn Japanese) and Tokyo and although he didn't practice Kendo he would many times go to see practice because many of his friends were in the Kendo Clubs. Crazy is just how he describes them. Especially in Oosaka. His best friend is now the Head of the Robotics Faculty at Chiba university. I dream of going there (and join the kendo club).

I'm not sure about the urinating blood part as being a part of the rigorous training thing. Many female olympians don't have their period because they train so hard. Does that mean it's a good thing...no.

Once a year IBU has a weekend seminar just for non-Japanese citizens living in Japan where students can try out all kinds of martial arts. What a great experience that was!

Kendokamax, do you have access to past years manuals from the seminars??

I believe the program you refer to is the International Budo Culture Seminar. It is actually conducted by the Nippon Budoukan, the umbrella organization of recognized martial arts in Japan. The reason why it is held there, in part, at the IBU, is because the Nippon Budokan has a fabulous training center and dormitory just a few minutes from the IBU. The NB was actually one of the entities that nutured the formation of the IBU, although after the loss of the founder the relationship has somewhat gone amiss. In any case, the two are still related.

Applications for the International Budo Culture Seminar can be obtained from the Promotions Division of the Nippon Budokan, at their Central Tokyo Office.

You can find the general information and contact information at:

http://www.nipponbudokan.or.jp/shinkou/html_1/index5.html

Kind regards,

M

Blood in and menstruation are two totally different things.

I am wondering why do they call it the International Budo University? Is it because they have Martial arts from around the world, or usually accept international students?
