Hi guys

Not sure where to post this but it is for the admin ppl of kendo world.
But everyone can put in their opinions aswell of course.

Anyway, I was just wondering, maybe you guys can create a chat site for members of the forum. Like a java chat applet.

Not sure if its on the cards or not and im sorry if someone has already asked.
But I thought I would ask anyway.

I think it would be good, so all us members who are online can chat to each other in real time.

Cheers

:)

I am against the idea, a forum where we can post out messeges is good enough. If we were to have a chat, it would no doubt just turn into a politically correct kendo debate between individuals. Not that we are hotheaded or uncivilized, but let's admit it . .. there are some that take things a little too seriously.

What if you could have a chat room where there is a hierachy of users. Kendo-World admin will be able to moderate, promote, and demote users of almost 20 different levels of ranks.

I have moderated such chat channels of a significant amount of people ranging from a small 50 people to an approximate 300 people. Forums, you can say, is like a slow conversation.

There are channel bots able to be put into the chat channels that act as the 24/7 guardians. These bots will be able to answer simple questions, moderate disruptive users, and maintain the integrity of the channel when the Admins are not present. The admins have full control over the channel bots.

Would that type of chat room sound decent? Let me know and I can set something up that will support up to 500 users at one time.

You need to have a lot of losers, I mean, people who spend a lot of time on the internet because they have nothing else to do in order to have a successful chatroom.
When you only have a majority of the people sporadically visiting the website throughout the day, you have people who want to talk and no one is around and the chatroom is a failure. I've seen it before. The forum allows people to leave a text message. And then, others to read and respond when they can or if they want to.

Believe it or not the World Kendo Chat (check the archives) has already been tried. It had limited success at first... and then we all got bored of each other. :d It had dothing to do with the official Kendo World website though.

Seriously, it was fun at the time (over a year ago I think) but it just didn't last that long (better to practice than talk about practice). Someone set up an MSN chat room and people from the Kendo World Message Board went there (those without hotmail accounts were royally screwed of course).

I'd like to add that everyone who chatted remained quite civil... except for Mingshi who kept coming on-line drunk as a Scotsman. Really quite embarrassing. That and the fact that most of us live in different time zones really didn't help.
