"Techniques while chasing"
As far as I know Oikomi training is done for stamina.

i dunno if im being precise. perhaps a youdansha can fill us in.

i think we did that waza for the first time last training sessions in our club.

basically you do kote men repetitively but the emphasis being on your footwork as you go up and down the hall.

at our club there's an sam dahn (san dan) from Tokyo Physical Uni or something and he does the exercise but without the shinai just as a warm up to practice foot work. so going forwards he does kote men. then going back hicki kote hicki men................and can he go fast.

most of you are talking about oikomi-keiko
As Nanbanjin said oikomi means chasing, waza is strike technique.
So oikomi waza can be :
-opponent strikes you and follow through, you turn around and chase him and strike him as he turn around to zanshin.
-opponent uses hiki-waza, you chase him and strike as he back off.

Basically, if opponent is moving away from you and you chase him to strike.

Thank you Kirin. I had been pondering this point, because I was finding it difficult to think of a good example of an application for oikomi.

So the difference is:

oikomi-geiko (chasing-training) - training stamina, footwork or whatever by chasing the moto-dachi up and down the hall while striking.

oikomi-waza (chasing-techniques) - techniques with specific application that involve chasing an opponent who is moving away. This is what the original question was asking about.

Thank you all. I appreciate the responses. I didn't know about either.
