Anyone out there attend this years budo seminar in Katsuura?
It was a terrific weekend, I learned a lot from the Iai Sensei and got a charge from practising with the other Iaidoka there. I got to test the strength of my kendo bug, I believe I really will start kendo in April, thank you. And I found I have no aptitude for "samurai swimming"

Is bujutsu truly seperate from budo? Have the combat applications been boiled out of modern budo or is it only in the instruction and presentation of the material that we see a deemphasis on the kill or be killed mentality? What if anything is missing? How do we approach that vaunted "edge" without becoming recreationists or "ultimate fighting" grappelers? or is that the only way?
