Good kendo as opposed to bad

This was said to me last night by my instructors, sensei. I just nodded and took it in. After thinking about this all day, I am at a loss for what he meant. I concidered asking him but he is a man of few words, who speaks in riddles that are still above my head. So, please any insights into this would be most appreciated.

Good kendo is showing proper form. Bad kendo is not showing proper form. You can hit men with sloppy form. The shinai made contact with your opponent's men but was did the shinai land straight on? Were your wrists angled in a bad position just so you could make contact? Did your arms, wrists, and hands move the shinai up and down to draw a smooth arc? As you get better and learn more, you know the difference between good and bad kendo.
As a beginner, you won't know the difference between good and bad kendo outside of what you have been taught.

Not only technical things, 'Good Kendo' is how you present yourself in your dojo.

Also, besides good, straight kendo, attacking at good opportunities. Not just a bashing stick fest, but attacking when there is an openning to exploit.

fuck it. when you do ji-geiko against sensei, go for it. don't give a shit about anything, go for it, go for it, go for it, it doesn't matter anymore. go for it again, until you have to throw up. if you consistently pour out your blood, sweat, and tears against your sensei, then your kendo might improve. otherwise, you can juist go back to playing computer games or whatever. and, yes, profantiy is justified here.

Good kendo is usuing the best everything.. In order to improve your kendo you must master the good clean basics. You should respect everything and not take anything forgranted. Always use proper "nice ways" and follow the rules. Be super respectful, and everything. Always rush to a senpai or sensei to ask for training. Actually Kote Men put a lot of information up on good "nice ways" in the posting forum.. but have to read a lot.. since it was copied and pasted.. ^_^ but good kendo is the respect and the best of everything you can possibly do. ah.. maybe i don't make sence.. oh well.. I like good kendo a lot. ^_^

since we cant not all practice everyday and most of us have obligations in life. I would tend to say that good kendo is kendo that you are doing with honesty, without cheating to yourself. Something that you are doing for not only your own case but other people in your dojo as well.

there is no need to be good at kendo if you dont have strong opponents.

I may have overstated my case a bit. But i had just returned from sake-keiko with sensei and that was one of the lessons he dropped, although it was a bit more subtle. I still stand by the basic message though. Always practice wholeheartedly.

NewKenshi, what everyone here has said. But remember, when your sensei says something like that to you, s/he is giving you something to ponder based on your current level of practice and understanding.

So in the end, nobody can help you figure out what "good kendo" is. You have to do it yourself.

I love an American who's not afraid do a bit of fucken swearing. (fucken is Aus pron. BTW). Shows he's not a member of the religious right! And yes, wholeheartedly agree with that philosophy. I think it would make a fucken ace tenugui!

I do believe farken is more of an extended rural drawl. Urban types, i.e. bogans and all who admire them tend to clip their swearing a little, since the word itself is not so much a profanity but more a punctuation mark in conversation. It's also a pause like um or err, as well as an emphasiser, as in:

"How the fuck are ya?"
"Yeah".
"Dja see the Tiges play Sat'dee?"
"K'noath!" [contraction of "fucking oath" ("indeed!")]
"How fucked were they?"
"Fucken fucked."
"Mate the way they just fu-cken poonced about the fucken place, you'd think they'd fucken gone an' lost the fucken plot. I mean, fuck me, it's just not fucken on."
"When's ya missus turnin' up?"
"Fucknose." ["I don't know", as in Q:"Who knows?" A:"Fucknose."]
