There is a very well regarded school in Rockville, MD. Check this link to determine contact information, location and practice times.

I'm a member of Shidogakuin Washington D.C. but sometimes I practice at Northern VA Budokai. I just graduated from George Washington University in Washington D.C. We have a kendo club and during the summer we practice on saturdays iaido:5-6:30pm kendo:6:30-8:30pm @ Building K (817 23rd Street Washington D.C. N.W. 20052) Metro stop :(Blue line) Foggy Bottom/GWU
This friday Shidogakuin at Herndon doesn't have practice because Kato Sensei (7th Dan Kendo and Iaido:The Headmaster of Shidogakuin) will be giving a seminar. Friday at the dojo in Rockville 7-10pm and Sunday at the Dojo in Herndon 9:30-10:30am (youth kendo) and 10:30am-1pm (adult kendo)

post is 5 years old, you are not likely to get a reply.

...and if you do get a reply from a 'private teacher' in MD, speak to us first. There are a few BS-ers amongst the genuine teachers in the area. ;)

Your best bet would just be to suck it up and go to a dojo. If someone does teach private lessons I don't know if the extra cost of having private lessons would be worth it if you are just starting out.
