I see large people in supermarkets, walking the streets and its pretty obvious they do no exercise whatsoever yet they don't get knee. problems (see my previous posts) I want to do kendo but it just doesn't seem to want to happen.

Started kendo in January got as far as wearing do, kote and tare even had a zekken ordered for me only to do something to my knee which I have been told must be rested and possibly may need arthoscopy.

Missed one month already this due to groin strain in my left leg, wear an achilles support and then my knee goes.

WHY!? WHY?! Maybe I should switch to Tai Chi...

Just venting...but all those just about to start I hope you have none of the injuries that have blighted me.

Where is the technology to rebuild me? I believed that show as a kid...(Six Million Dollar Man)

Perhaps it is not meant to be that I practise kendo.

If you feel like giving up like that, then Kendo is not meant to be practiced by you. People get injuries all the time. As long as you heal, you should be able to continue whenever you get better. Famous sports figures break limbs and sprain muscles all the time and they have to sit out for the whole season, but you don't see them giving up on something they love. Just calm down and let your wounds heal. As long as you don't get amputated, you will be fine and you can start Kendo (as well as your regular daily life) again.

"...its pretty obvious they do no exercise whatsoever yet they don't get knee. problems..."

Most of the people who have knee problems have them because of some physical activity that ruined them. Hence, lazy people who do nothing have healthy knees. However, do nothing people tend to get all those other problems like poor heart conditions, high blood pressure, cholesterol, whatever...

Moral of the story is... choose your poison, your body is gonna go at some point, so take care of it to prolong your active life, but it's gonna crap out eventually, if not one body part, it'll be another...

:)

Cheerful, ne? :)

Not always. Some get damaged because of their weight, usually through a fall, trip, slip, etc.

There's total knee construction. This is meant for those who have totally blown out their knee.

*sigh* My plantar fascitis has recurred for the 3rd time.

My right piriformis injury hasn't completely gone away since 2000. I cringe everytime I have to get into tatehiza...can't imagine the days when sensei wants to teach chuden, eventhough normally I'd be thrilled to learn new iai stuff.

My quads are tight making me look like I have a hernia everytime I get into seiza.

Life happens, you just deal.

If you are hurt, there is always visualization training, conceptual training, and mitori geiko, to name a few.

Just because you have an injury doesn't mean it is gameover.

FWIW.
