View Full Version : Sore abdomen...

I noticed something a couple of days ago.
Thought it would be a good idea to ask my friends on the forum for some input.
I train about three days a week. For an hour and a half each session.
The training is very intense. I am usually ready to throw up by the time keiko is over(haven't actually had to hurl, though).
I've been focusing on my footwork trying to improve my speed(follow-thorough after the strike). Trying to put some emphasis on my lower body training(posture, suburi squatting and hoppping and all that).
And kiai is everything at my dojo(it's also a great way to release stress).
The thing is, the day after training, I have really sore stomach - as if I'd done a lot of sit-ups. Not that it's an actual bother, but I was curious.
Am I doing something wrong? :beard:

No, it sounds okay. Are you drinking enough water during the day? You should drink a lot before and after. (Obviously, you don't drink any during, although in lots of other sports/martial arts, one does drink water at intervals during the activity.)

Charlie could be right but better yet consult a physician regarding this matter. There are some debilitating condition that is triggered by extensive practice or physical demanding activities. A friend of mine discovered that he has some bits of gallstones stuck in his bladder.physician said that this could have been worsen due to too much stomping with the foot.

I sometimes have the same feeling. I take it as a positive signal that I'm using my abdominals to stabilise my hips and not have them lag behind during an attack. As you're working on your footwork and posture, I would guess that you're using your abs a lot more causing these aches and pains. Just like anything else, once you continually use those muscles, you will stop being aware of it.

Actually, I had that same feeling last week, and i think it's when you're doing your kiaii correctly. Because you're suppose to use your diaphram and not your lungs, you usually contract your stomach and in doing this several times it's like an exercise.

Question, did you feel it in the lower abdomen, underneath your belly button? Cause that's where I felt my pain last week when i was trying to practice correct kiaii.

That's exactly where it feels sore.
The lower abdomen below the belly button. Where I assume Tanzen(in Japanese) or Danjun(in Korean) is located. Like I said, as if I'd done a lot of sit-ups.
The sore feeling the day after training is especially noticeable following a good, solid, sustained effort during keiko.
Hey, maybe I'm doing something right!:)
