ok, so i've never really heard of white wax wood before, anyone know how it is in comparison to japanese white oak?
White waxwood is often used in Chinese MA weapons - not as dense or rigid as Japanese white oak - probably not suited to SMR Jodo, from the couple of kung fu waxwood staves I have seen anyway, too whippy. Of course there may be different grades of waxwood like with oak - the way our Tasmanian oak is no substitute for Japanese oak.

I agree with ADEN. Waxwood is probably not suited for SMR. What art would you be using it for ie. aikijo, katori, etc. The best idea would be to ask your sensei before buying it.

We had a jodo-accident once because of a flexi-jo. I'd be a bit concerned about getting a jo that will flex. I did wushu with the flexible staffs and can imagine what would happen if you got a jo that flexes.
