yuck that was a horrid video. Why was the woman wearing Chinese clothing in that fake Japanese house and the people wearing kendo armour doing such stupid techniques :D. Then one hits the woman’s men and she gets knocked out? Then he goes into jodan??? Strange :).

The Belgium one was 10 times better lol...

Wow! Really good video clip! Music is not bad either! I loved the drum and bass influence in it! Thanks for sharing Musha!

Lol, that was funny. Sure, there were some cultural mix-ups and the music sounded like euro-trash dance-pop, which i guess it is. ("Drum and bass" influence?? Even if you're talking about the Belgian one, what are you smoking cBEx? I want some too! :smoker: )

Nevertheless, it's always refreshing to see actual kendoka in a video instead of just models and muscle-men with sword props. Yeah, the tsuki was great. Thumbs up for that! Plus, the steamy topless scenes were a nice bonus. :lick:

Gosh, it seems so obvious you would need quality music with some power for a kendo video, but all we get is lowest-common-denominator dance (see also Bomfunk MC's - Something Going On (http://www.filmitalli.fi/Films/Music_video/JuusoSyrja/video_SGO.mpg) - includes abysmal "rapping") or a down-tempo Morcheeba rip-off. Aggghhhhh!!! Soon i'll have to quit bitching and make my own darn video.

Anyway, thanks for posting it, Don_Lubo! What are the lyrics about actually? The Belgian one had something about "put your hand between my legs...." Gee whiz.

Oh man, now i remember. What a shameless rip-off of the video for Madonna - Die Another Day, where she's fighting with herself in black and white outfits! The music there wasn't half-bad and i think she even picks up a katana at some point.

Anyway, utterly shameless!

ok, negative creep mode <off>

it's all good.

You don't have to know Bungarian to understand it. Watch the video, after aerobics, Kendo, dancing, then you need a bath.

Yay for music in languages you can't understand!

The videos were quite fun although perhaps it wasn't a good idea to show it to a female friend of mine. Pethaps she has a wrong image of kendo now :D.

Thanks.
I guess it's good exposure for kendo.
Everything was real except for the fake falling down. And that the singer's men could be removed without untying the himo. That was plain old silly.

there's one thing that could have made this video a lot more realistic: explosions. Every time they struck dou if the shinai exploded into pieces or after she went tsuki instead of falling down she flew out the house...yeah, that'd be cool.

The other music video looked like the people knew what they were doing (in terms of kendo) and the dancing wasn't bad

not-I, thanks I didn't know your where a music, critic! ;-) In deed I was talking about the Belgian clip! 'cause the music in the first one made my ears bleed and the chick I personaly thought looked brutal and the overall clip was bad! And I do not need to smoke- up to appreciate average music! :-) I have a bloody boring job! Everything seems good! :-)

He could have been using this (http://kendo.tozando.com/acc/k0615.html). I doubt it though.

Dear mister Musha i'm very surprised because for the first time i hear for "stupid techniques" in Kendo. Hmm... this is very strange.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that the video contained a half naked woman.

I reckon that if you look closely the one in white knows what she is doing. The other one is not so good. And if you look really closely I reckon you can see one of the singer's nipples.

No worries, mate. Music is one of my passions and jobs, hence also one of my pet peevs. There's a lot of good stuff out there, but it's hard to sift through the huge mass of crap produced these days. But i'm not a music critic, i just play one on internet forums.

Actually, figuring out what you DON'T like about a particular piece of music can be an interesting exercise. I don't like the Bulgarian song because it is a very bad cliché of a genre that consists almost entirely of clichés.

The Belgian song is certainly far more interesting and it's not a bad tune in itself. It's just a shame that it's also a cliché of a genre with fewer clichés. The video rocks, no question. But what does a down-tempo song about sex have to do with kendo? Umm, actually, forget it, that was a rhetorical question! But try muting that video and watching it with one of your favorite songs. It gave me goosebumps. If you like the Belgian track, you might want to check out some of the originators like Morcheeba, Moloko, or Cinematic Orchestra.

Don_Lubo! Please keep this storm in a teacup brewing, and tell us what the lyrics are about in the clip you posted!

I understand how you feelas I am the resident indie boy/snob in my school. Sometimes it's painful to see the "popular" boys wearing weezer shirts and to think about how much I liked them when they were relatively unknown. It's actually the personality trait I dislike the most about myself.

Which kind of music do you like [...]? I understand how you feel as I am the resident indie boy/snob in my school.
All kinds, really, as long as it's quality.

Music is kind of like kendo: after a while you know quality when you see/hear it, regardless of labels or genre, and aspire to that. Using music as a status symbol or fashion statement is snobbery. Treating it as a way to make money is business. Neither has much to do with the thing itself. Being open to new stuff and happy to share it is appreciation.

I suppose i was an indie boy in school, but i don't give a hoot about that now. If an acquaintance introduces me to Messhugah and i reciprocate with King Crimson or Coltrane, we've both expanded our horizons. I don't need a t-shirt for that.

Sure, most interesting music happens outside the major entertainment industries, but that doesn't mean there's never a good song in the top 40. I don't care for what Britney Spears represents, but "Baby One More Time" is still a rockin' pop tune (it's not like she wrote it, anyway). The point is to listen without prejudice.

p.s. yes, i like some of Shadow's stuff. on that note, be sure to check out DJ Krush's latest album, Jaku - dark, brilliant, and very Japanese.

It's not so much that I don't listen to music that's not "my style" as much as getting slightly annoyed when the "little bands that could be" I've liked for years and no one liked in my school suddenly become very popular with the people who only listen to what is "cool".

I don't care for what Britney Spears represents, but "Baby One More Time" is still a rockin' pop tune (it's not like she wrote it, anyway). The point is to listen without prejudice. It is indeed! One of the proofs for this is that a rock band (well sort of) as Travis can cover it and make it sound even better (in my opinion).

and also reminds us chudan > jodan
And naked ladies > musical content

Moving along the same lines as not-I, Tomoyasu Hotei's album Electric Samurai is pretty darn good. He's the guy who did that nifty song( Battle Without Honor or Humanity) for Kill Bill Vol. 1... another funny thing about this guy is that he plays the bad samurai in the movie Taboo.

Bulgarian video is quite good (lady :) ) but music is not (for me).

Second: De La Vega "Surely" at first I liked because of Kendo, now I really enjoy that track and another songs of this band. Thanks for that.

ps. In bugarian clip music is not so important ;)

ok, im finally here to shed light on all your questions :D

i made my bulgarian friend who was on visit two weeks ago watch the clip and give me some info about it...

she said, the song is a very famous pop tune in bulgaria, the hot girl in the video just makes a fancy dance cover/version of it. she said she likes the original version much better. about the lyrics, theyre kinda silly too. mostly of the 'im just ditching a guy here' type. so shes basically saying all the song 'ok, we're thru with it, no more no no no, until here we're together, when the light goes red we part diff ways' and stuff like that.

ok, so no doubt the bulgarian girl is pretty hot, and even though both songs share the stupid lyric content, kendo and music wisely the belgium video completely kicks more ass.

its less fancy and more realistic, they actually tie himo(right hai_hai?) and the kendo moves look more natural. about the music... well, im not much into pop, but id surely always pick jazzy pop against dance pop.

I don't mind the music, and the theme of kendo, but i HAAAATE when videos are in 100% slow-mo
