Hello boys and girls,
It's been a while since I last posted here, but I have a question. I am going up for Ikkyu this October and am a little nervous. What is are the judges looking for during the Ikkyu test? I think I have good kendo and I am pretty good at kata 1-3. I know there will be five judges, but it seems like they are looking for different things. Oh, and I know shiai kendo is different from ranking kendo but how? Any help would be great!

Thanks for the reply!
I know, I know. I have asked them and are following what they say. I think I am just trying to cover my bases and over prepare. (bad habit)

All I can say is that, just be calm, do your best kendo, lots of kiai, show good zanshin after your hits, I know Miyahara doesn't like fumikomi, but you gotta show kikentaiichi, not super sliding ..hahaaha, I know you'll do good next month ..

Hongsermeier, Not sure what the question is but you should get it tonight from your dojo. I believe you turn in your answer at the time of regestration.

I will not be going to my regular dojo tonight. I found a partner for Kata at the Oxnard dojo so I will be going there tonight. I hope I can get a copy from them.

You should be going for the real deal. Goodwill is for the older Gi-Jans like Inouye. Whoops Hope Inouye is not reading this. Your young and you got the skills. You and the Chinens should all make the team. Got to represent COVINA. Name the last dojo from Southern Cal that had 3 members on the yudansha men's team.

Hey don't give me a bad rap (or atleast worse than I deserve), I never through a tsuki your way nancy. Holding center is not throwing tsuki! If you refuse to stop thowing yourself at the end of my shinai......well......? Now on the other hand to Brad I throw tsuki whenever he blinks just to keep him honest. :devious:

Stick and the stay isn't as bad as shoving the shinai tip up the side of your men to the ear and a hard rip out. Now that hurts.

Yes, I must admit, I lost my balance against Mrs. Owaki in a Taikai earlier this year. Even When I was going down I held my Kamai. She never got close enough to take a shot. In the end I did beat her.
As for the Salinas Sensei's, I have been on the recieving end. When they hit it, it hurts. When they miss it, it REALLY HURTS!
P.S.
I weigh about 180 lb. I know not a big as French but bigger than most Japanese guys.
