HI GUYS!
I was bored today, so I thought i'd do something I have had in my mind for a while.
This is a kendo practice device I thought up....
I modelled it out quickly in solidworks.
It's a bit off the wall, but I intend to build one.
I hope you enjoy!
I put in some crappy figure drawings to demonstrate...
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!
the kendotron9000
AKA "mechanical motodachi"!

So here it is... it consists of a frame holding a wheel up high at head level.
A shinai is hooked on to the wheel by way of a ring.
An electric motor slowly turns the wheel using a chain or a belt of some kind.
I guess at about 2 wheel revolutions per minute.
When the shinai falls over its centre of gravity it will swing down at your men.
The player then parries, dodges and counters.

Show the machine your best kamae and wait for the strike.

BLOCK! (or you can move away like Men Nuki Do)

COUNTER!

you can also practice striking any of the legal kendo targets with the kendotron9000 switched off. I'm thinking of building the pads out of sheets of cushon foam covered in vinyl or something.
