I´m not tryin to have a long talk in spanish, i just ask for a spanish reply because i don´t know how to find user from southamerica (an maybe spain).
the reason is because i´m building my dojo´s website, and i wanna invite those users to use the forum.

We have a womens section; could we not have a foreign language section as well?

I do not see any harm in a little diversity.

Some people who do kendo etc may only speak English as a second or third language. And whilst it is generally regarded as the planets' lingua franca not everyone speaks it or writes it confidently.

A separate area where views may be asked of others who spaak the same language may help further knowledge of kendo etc. And surely one of the strengths of such forums is exactly that - to help other learn a little more about what we all love and are truly interested in.

If it went to a vote _ I would wholeheartedly support it

As a non-native English speaker, I know our difficulties to write correctly... But I must disagree with you... I think this forum is nice because we can share knowledge with people from all around the world.


Having a separate section for another languages is a temptation to not trying to write at the English sections, thus preventing us from sharing our knowledge with the rest of the world.

Like it or not, English is the language that is learned at almost every country as a second language. There are other forums at the Internet in another languages.

As far as people don’t complain too much about our weak English, I think it is not necessary to write in our home languages. :D

Google has a translation tool that can be very handy for those who cannot write or read in English…

Het lijk me niet verstandig om een deel van het forum in, bijvoordbeeld, het Nederlands te doen. Ten eerste is het dan niet meer te controleren wat er geschreven word. Mijn tweede probleem is dat het de meeste mensen dan niet meer kunnen meedelen in de informatie die wordt aangeboden. Verder is dit voor mij een goede mogelijkheid om mijn Engels op peil te houden en te verbeteren. Ik kan wel doorgaan met het geven van redenen, maar dat is zinloos, het overgrote deel van jullie begrijpt er toch niets van.

Yeah... I think you misunderstood! :D

Here is the history:

1) WASHI was looking for Spanish speaking people to test his website and its forum, not to write in Spanish here as his first posting suggested.

2) Lloromannic told him, in Spanish, that speaking Spanish here is not nice because this is an English forum! (Funny to say that in Spanish! LOL)

3) I answered to the request to help WASHI in his Spanish website.

4) satsumaruma liked the idea of having non-English section here.

5) The rest of us don´t. ;-)

I'm from South America too, I don't think that would be rude to write in spashis ONLY if you write it in english too, for everyone in this forum to understand, So, writing in english will be the solution, hehehe.

I cant help you with a view of your site, since I am the webmaster of my country website.

Hi, I´m from Chile, I agree that it´s one of this site´s greater advantages to be a common place for practcioners from all the world, and it´s due to english (mostly), let´s keep it like that.

I often have no idea what you are going on about:D

TBH, no it doesn't bother me that I do not understand what other people say or write _ I have never suffered from paranoia nor a desire to know what everyone else is saying.

What I was suggesting was that a separate area where people could converse in languages besides English would not necessarily be a bad thing. People might be able to better express their views in their mother tongue and not be misunderstood - you can read any number of threads where people have taken offence at something someone has written even if if the author did not intend any offence (and this often by English speakers)

If no-one wants it that's fine by me - just saying I personally wouldn't be against it if others asked for it.

( oh and by the way I think your English is just fine and doesn't need any improving - babel Fish is a wonderful thing);)
