I will be taking my shodan test in Japan this summer. I have been told that I must take the written test in Japanese. Does anyone know the existance of a test in English?

In the past, when I've sat naginata gradings the test questions have been translated (almost always by Alec, in fact)
There should be a good number of translated questions that the federation has at its disposal. Whether it chooses to use them or not is another question.
Are you sitting the test under the AJNF, or the INF?
Who told you that the written test will be in Japanese?

I will test under AJNF. I am studying up in Tottori-ken, most likely being the first foreigner to do so, so my sensei doesn`t have any experience about this. I should have asked Kimura sensei at the Budo Seminar a few weeks back.

In that case, I'd say it'll definitely be in Japanese.
You may find they will let you write the answers in English, but I wouldn't bank on it.
When I do gradings in Japan, it's always been more of a Japanese test than a practical test!
