Hello hello!
it's always fun to see what people look like I.R.L. (*in real life, incase you've been living in a cave for the past 12 years)
SO ANYWAYS
this is a thread to post a picture of yourself for the (kendo)world to see...
don't be shy about your looks, as dr seuss said, "those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
and nobody's perfect (me especially)
so try to post a pic without bogu (without men at the very least)
and no fake pics :)
if you don't have a place to host an image from, www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com/) is good... you can sign up free, upload a picture and paste the link tag in a reply here
OR paste a direct link to a picture already on the net.
remember: be kind
I'll get things started..

Hai-hai is a troll and no trolls worth their salt *ever* posts anything about themselves, as they know that it could be used against them, the same way Hai-hai abuses anything posted by people here...and with the amount of shit he's been posting here, people would jump on him instantly. (I would).
In short, he's a pathetic little individual, who gets his kick out of abusing people who comes here asking for help.
It's funny that he keeps comparing his post count to Neils...Neil's been posting 95% useful stuff (with the rest of it standard chatter), whereas Hai-hai has been posting 95% meaningless trolls with the odd helpful post. (Occasionally he slips up and is actually helpfull).

It's funny that you are keeping percentages on how useful our information is. Are you obsessed? Maybe you are.
Seriously, if I didn't jump on someone's case about some stupid question, then, it would force them to... oh, I don't know... ask their sensei.

1. I get my kick out of reading Hai_Hai's posts, does this make me a pathetic little individual?
2. Go check the definition of "abusing" in your little dictionnary before using it.
3. I think your "percentage argument" has been used before, you're getting old, and boring.

screw that... if hai hai is a troll, then trolls are funny.
and what's the most pathetic of all? people without a sense of humor who make snap-judgements on people who try to bring a little fun into the forum.
and i don't understand how anyone can "abuse" material posted in a thread.... it's not as if hai hai is using kendo advice for terrorism or something.... information in general is tough to abuse unless you're some crazy dictator or something.
It's funny that he keeps comparing his post count to Neils...Neil's been posting 95% useful stuff (with the rest of it standard chatter), whereas Hai-hai has been posting 95% meaningless trolls with the odd helpful post. (Occasionally he slips up and is actually helpfull).
why would you compare hai hai to neil? the little "rivalry" they have going is just a friendly game but you make it sound like there's animosity.
you're right... a lot of hai hai's posts are meaningless, but they're funnier than "95%" of anybody else's here. even you admitted that hai hai's post count rivalry is "funny"

Musha,
I recognise where that photo was taken. That's then main entrance by Shibuya isn't it? I have trained with the Shiseikan dojo on the grounds of the Meiji Jingu.
They teach kendo, judo, aikido, kyudo and kenjutsu. In fact one of their top aikido teachers is visiting us in London at the moment. She's Rokudan aikido and sandan kendo.

Hello,
I think it's very nice to see the faces behind the phrases. It is also inspiring and comforting to see that my "obsession" is shared by a lot of people from all around the world. With this I mean the obsession with Japanese Culture in general and Kendo et al in particular.
It is also nice to meet the authority of this institution and I refer to none other than Neil who apparently spends a lot of time in the Dojo and behind his computer. I wondered where he has found the time to produce and raise such a beautiful daughter. I also suppose that she takes after her Mom because she is way too good looking.
This institution also defended its honor and glory recently under a brutal Ninja attack. It was nice to see how people reacted. The discussion with the shinai org was also nice literature. With this in mind I would like to point out the following article. http://www.arscives.com/bladesign/inevitablechange.htm
Maybe some of you already know about it but I think that this woman/doctor has a point. I think that we can all pick something out of this essay.
IMHO I think that you are all doing a great job and hopefully we can meet each other in the flesh and or cross our shinai in the near future. And please post as many pictures of yourself here, I guess everybody wants to see a face now and then.
Keep up the good work,
Kindest regards,
Alphons

I always wondered why they did that. i always thought they did it to be like sailormoon cause i used to like that anime back then and that girl would always use the piece sign. I was just wondering if anyone knew what this meant at all.

I want to marry a Japanese or Spanish girl just to my kids are less likely to suffer the same fate. I have more hair than the photo makes out it's just mostly gray. Through some freak of nature I started going gray when I was twelve. I have quite a few grey and white hairs at the temples. I also have huge amounts of hair though. It's been described by the hair dresser as "dream-hair", usually followed by a comment on how it's such a pity I won't let him cut it to his whim. I have the most retro haircut in my school. The moptop.

To think, even a girl with your "Sharon Stone" looks!
I got my grey hair from my mum and my hairline from my dad. My head's so big I don't really like heaps of hair, and if I was that worried about the colour I would dye it (I tried that once on my mum's advice but it was a big mistake). Now that I'm in my thirties people have stopped saying "hey, you've got grey hair!" so I don't flip out and kill people without giving a second thought like an irate ninja any more.

I know, I was concerned about the glasses too but my sensei uses glasses himself in his men and said it works okay, and so far it has worked for me too. But I've been thinking at times of getting sports goggles instead, I'm not a contact lens person (never even tried a pair on in my life).

Thanks for the tip, I can see it now. It looks very good. But if I may be so bold the kote sounds a bit "tsuba". It is better to wait for the last instant before you get hit, because your turn is too fast, usually the kote strike is not dead on when you turn away too early.

I've been watching the clip to look for mistakes to correct. I think I can remember actually hitting the kote. But yes I turn too fast, and I lower my kensen afterwards and there is a crease on my keikogi.
Picky, picky, picky. Remember this is a random degote from his last training session.
The clip was probably taken 10 minutes before the 9:00 to 13:00 lesson ended and everyone was about to fall down and die from exhaustion.
It's too bad that it is a random clip. Yesterday had some great moments. Not the least when I was tai ataried just bellow one basket and my bum stopped moving when I crossed the middle line. I think it's the first time I have bruises in my butt for many years.

That way only the kote is an Ippon, if you stay with a fast opponent and you hit the kote first and then you get a men shinpans usually grant the men and not the kote. At least that is my experience. You're right that you should hit the moment he initiates his men or what ever he wants to do, but I meant that you have to sense(?) that something's coming and that's what I meant with waiting until the last moment. I see your point, but expressing your inner thoughts in a foreign language is a bit difficult. Thanks for pointing out this error.

As for my "hideous face" Nanbanjin - users of this forum should know that your own mug is not all that unlike that which is depicted by your avatar. Your smell is not unlike that of a goat either.
As for ZANSHIN!!! Some prefer an analogy using water, but I prefer to think of my kendo face as the dregs of vegemite still stuck to the edge of the old jar when its time to open a new one.
Hope this helps you Infinity with evolving your understanding of ZANSHIN!!! I find the more i say it the better mine gets.

Oh Nanbanjin, you're such a purist! Such a stickler for the rules!
No tsuba because i couldnt find one to fit over the kodachi tsuka.
Lost the match in the end that night to my japanese mate anyways. Should have listened to mum's sound advice:- "if its not on, its not on" is what she's always said...
Dont think she's played much nito though. Not sure that she was referring to kodachi tsuba's either come to think of it... :confused2

The 40cm rule (well it's not really a rule I suppose) actually applies to the men himo. That is, the length of the himo should be 40cm from the knot. I thought it funny that your hair is actually longer than the himo!

yeah I put a bullet retainer in it for Kendo. It's been stretched since that pic was taken upto 4mm but the diameter is now smaller.
You can also see one of my transdermal implants in that pic (right side of forehead). That ones already been taken out and the other side has to come out tomorrow as its breaking through. Will be fun I'm sure, hurts like a ****ing bitch and no anasthetic is used at all.
I havn't worn Men yet but I would imagine it would cause a lot of trouble for my implants so in a way its a good thing, the bad thing is they were £200 each. My other piercings are likely to be taped up and I have many...I'll just say I really really hope the Tare does its job for any off target blows or there may be a bit of damage caused
