Hey,

this is (kind of) a replica of a katana that i made a couple years back.

It's actually too long for a katana, but i wouldn't call it a nodachi because the handle isn't long enough.

ANYWAYS the blade is made of cedar, planed sanded primed and painted in a chrome straypaint... the hilt is a piece of aluminum tube covered in leather and to wrap it i went crazy researching how to wrap the tsuka (cloth straps)
The endcap of the tsuka is just a piece of wood painted gold, and the tsuba is another black piece of wood.

you're welcome to criticize, but i DO KNOW about the inaccuracy of it... it was just something i made for fun.

It's too long and too frail to use as a bokken, so i just have it hung on the wall of my room.

Please excuse my blurry photos (and my crusty green chesterfield)

Whata nice job.
Have you thought of making boken? At $50 to $100 a pop you could make a fair bit of change.

have fun,
Mark1

Well it takes a lot of work to get that subtle radius of the blade, and to chamfer it with a plane on both sides like that... but if i set up some crazy jig or something i might be able to mass-produce them.

The fact of the matter is, it's easy to make something that looks good, or that is sturdy and functional... the really hard trick is making something that's both.
