I am a subscriber to Kendo World, but am also thinking about subscribing to Kendo Nippon as I really like its content (and colour photos). On the other hand, I have not yet seen a copy of Kendo Jidai but have heard a lot of references to it on this forum and it seemed like a solid publication as well.
I would be grateful if someone could shed some light on the difference between these two publications. Are they essentially magazines with similar coverage? or do they have different focus? (i.e. one covers more wazas, the other covers more competition etc). It is worth while to subscribe to both at the same time?
Thanks!

Jidai seems to have an image of discussing more things to do with the mental side of stuff, and Nihon maybe concentrates slightly more on the technique side. The differences are extremely minor though. With both you'll get a load of competition results that are of no interest, unfortunately. If you don't read Japanese too well, Nihon might be somewhat easier to undertsand because of the extensive use of pictures, and the slightly easier concepts they sometimes handle. Jidai always seems to be stuffed with hand-written diagrams about ki distribution and stuff, which would probably be impenetrable to someone who couldn't read the accompanying explanation. Plus, if you buy Nihon, you get to read my articles!

I subscribe to Kendo Nippon, but not Kendo Jidai because Nihon has more photos. Kendo Jidai is too text-intensive for my purposes.

Which article in which issue?

Or, e-mail Kendo Nippon directly.
I just used the local Kinokuniya for the service.

Thanks for the input guys! I guess Kendo Nippon it is, because I can't read too much Japanese.
I will also be subscribing through my local Kinokuniya (yes, one just opened up in the Breeze Center in Taipei).

From April 2004 to April 2005 I'm stuck at the back somewhere giving my thoughts. Nothing too exciting, but it paid for my A-1 men for a start!

You want to subscribe to a magazine, an expensive one at that, in a language you can't read? Just want to look at pictures?

i'm biased to kendo nippon cause some of the sensei ive trained with have written articles for this zine, not the other one :D
and as they said before on this thread, the images are good quality and some even self-explanatory for the nihongo-impaired.

Kanyil can read Kanji...that's half the battle.
Besides, the pictures that are in Kendo Nippon can help you get a sense of the flavor....
FWIW.
