If anyone were going to Japan, and planned on being in Kyoto then I suggest they visit the Kyoto Budo Center. The place is very interesting, they have an incredible Kendo dojo, and areas for Sumo and Kyudo. The Center is very close to the Hiean Shrine. Also I suggest visiting the several Kendo shops in the immediate area. But seriously, it was a very interesting place, if only we had dojos like that here.

Kyoto Butokuden has got to be one of the best dojo's I have ever practiced at.......
my self and the group of people I went with where lucky enough to get invited to a high grade practice one sunday morning. It was awesome!!!!
The level of the people there was just incredible.
Just another thing it is the old Dojo that they all warm up in before the grading..... in Kendo's grueling challenge.
If you get a chance go and practice............

I went there for the Kyoto Taikai this year. :) Haven't had a chance to train there though. It's a bit of a hike from Osaka.

I will be there in a few days to train. It has been 20 years since I last stepped into the place.
I will be riding the train the train from Umeda, Osaka. Could not get a hotel in Kyoto, packed with people who want to look at the stupid Fall leaves. Want to see leaves? Come to my back yard, I will even let you rake them.
