Curtis, Kawa, anyone
I have bought a steam cleaner, it works great...
Now for my men, how do I clean that?
Do i just spray the whole thing?
Do i put a cloth over it first?
Do i avoid leather?
Advice?

Advice?Boy you almost missed me. I am leaving Thursday for Japan. In fact I plan to have a drink with (Dr.) Alex.
I consulted my wife who actually does the cleaning for me. I know, I am spoiled.
She starts at the outside edge of the men with the spray so she can tell how wide it will spray. Then you can move closer to front and not spray the leather edging that holds the men gane on. spray it on and then the machine sucks it out. She goes over some areas repeatedly to get the tough stuff. Go easy on it the first time around. She is pretty aggressive with the salt stains.
The inside is a little tougher, but with the smaller head you can get into the liner and clean it too. Do not overdo the amount of spray since it soaks in pretty quickly. You can also get in the chin area with a toothbrush and then finish it with the machine.
My men is getting cleaned tonight. I sprayed with an alcohol solution a couple days ago.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Practice using the steam cleaner on something like a section of carpet or car interior. Get used to controlling the amount of liquid to spray and see how well it picks up the shampoo/water mix.
Then after you are done with that, you can do my car.

You guys are able to steam clean your men at home? Amazing!
(Excited puppy dog in Garfield smattering of questions....)
What type of steamer did you buy? How long have you been doing this? What type of solution do you use? Does it damage the equipment? You soaked it in alcohol a few days ago?
Wow, I might buy one for the club and have a stinky men cleanup beer Saturday.

Bissell Little Green Machine. The soap that came with it. Sprayed it with a 50/50 alcohol solution prior to cleaning to kill a few things (I hope).
Check out this place I found in Kendo Nippon: http://www.bogucleaning.com/ The results look amazing.
I have friend that is sending an inquiry about sending bogu from the US.

Well thank you Serenity. It will be two weeks of hard practice. However I do intend to fit in some fun. Like endless shopping for myself (kendo, etc,), my wife (kimono stuff) and kids (toys). Also Osaka has a Universal Studios park.
I will try and let you know how it goes.

Thanks Curtis!
Bissels Green Machine, i'll start looking for it. I currently disinfect my bogu with Aerosan it removed the mildew and overall stench but it doesn't solve the salt stain problem. You can find it in most stores that sell disinfectants for bowling shoes and camping gear. It should work and smell a little bit better than alcohol.
Have a great trip,
Mark

Can I assume you got the one with "pro heat" but not the power brush? Is it a steam cleaner or does it spray and vacume?
Sounds like the solution to my never ending battle against bogu funk.
