http://membres.lycos.fr/kendobaka/cardinalVSryan.wmv

if you are bored lol, look at it.

and tell me what you think about it and my kendo lol, ah and also the question of the poll: Do you think my kote was good even thought I barely moved after?

sorry guys this is not my crazy kendo, just my crapy mudansha tournament kendo.

btw Im the white one

happy kendo!

well, the timing was there- although the zanshin was a little funny- if anything, I would've given you the hiki-men instead-

ya but i think hiki-men, as most of my hit, was too light.
must use my arms more..

Sorry dude, I had to vote no. :( You had your opponent all sorts of confused with the katsugi you did right before the kote, but the zanshin could have definitely been forward (plus then, the guy would have been too close to hit men).

I see some reflections of Manabu Ito in your kendo (esp the zanshin for the men). :) Keep it up!

Yeah.. I think that kote was fine.....

The Zanshin was short and didnt really show much of getting away (looked like a hikki-kote attemp) but he showed a very clear indication of a kote hit. :)

Well... I think the hikki-men at the start would have been a point.. cleared it quite well... I think.. well I could be wrong....

Sempais.... your opinion?.... :P

Well I think the first hiki men was pretty good.

But that kote hit also seemed OK. It's a mudansha tournament, the judges are not that picky about that ' forming one with the universe' stuff (which was way funny by the way)

So my vote was yes, valid hit.

Now I would like to say that Max's kote was awfull, lousy, lacking, etc.. However, it was a pretty decent debana kote so zanshin going backward is not too important. He got the hit, was aware of his opponent, showed it off, etc. (he invited the guy to go men and the dude took the bait, what more can you say).

His hikimen was good I thought but shinpan are EXTREMELY inconsistent on handing out any ippon on hiki technique (one minute it's OK and the next minute it ain't, no one knows what the hell it is). I wonder if this is true just here or everywhere.

But still, Max was not one with the universe so I give no ippon.

Pretty much as long as the opponent is moving forward, hiki-waza wont score. You need a genuine surprise for it to work and catch them on their backheel and your opponent ignored it and moved forward straight away.
Kote looked ok, albeit a bit cheeky :)

One of my sempais basically told us that to score hiki cuts os very hard in the sense your opponent has to be basically stationary. As to say that he totally was caught off guard/balance and could not react to your cut.

The kote looked ok, another of my sempais uses the same technique where he cuts kote and moves backwards and turns his body sideways(something he picked up in japan). It looks a little weird but apparently its scorable(any japan based kendoka to confirm this?)

note: with that kote cut my sempai does there still is an initial movement forward eg. like a small step so its not a hiki cut

Zanshin sucked but you knew that - moving backwards is OK but with your body turned you didn't really have any defence or control. However nice timing and solid hit so no problem for mudansha shiai.

Neil

PS I also thought the sagari-men at the start was good.

ya i agree with neil

I actually felt very lucky to get that point. I didnt feel confortable at all when I made the kote, since i got hit on the head right after.

i was kinda surprised to get the kote so that's why my zanshin is super weird lol. actualy it's not debana kote. it just seems that way. I dont think I noticed he was going for men, it was just a coincidence. and that katsugi thing, that was just improvised bullshit.

it's so good to see ourselves on video of tournament, makes you realize so many things.

one of them is:
kendokamax is very lucky in tournaments :p

hehe it's kinda cool , now we can call this place the virtual kendo dojo.

The left foot up in the air on that forward men cut was pretty stylish too

AlexM

That foot in the air is Max's trade mark in Quebec. All those that have trained with him here (reagrdless of the dojo) recognize him through that one move.

It's a bit of a running joke.

Max,

1) You just flicked your bamboo stick for that one, IMHO.
2) You turned sideways after flicking. Zanshin ~= 0!!
3) Much nicer Men cuts before this crap one...
4) Bet you got that because your Kiai is good!

Sigh.

(Someone actually voted for the "one with the universe one?!:alien: )

AlexM
26th November 2002, 07:52 AM
Um. I was the one who voted for the "one with the universe" option. I'm sorry for not taking this seriously (I have my reasons). I officially think the kote was fine (see the previous post). That being said shinpan sometimes don't take into account zanshin if:

1) The contact was really, really obvious.
2) They love giving out men-debana-kote (a Toronto specialty...that will earn me a flame or two...and a beating the next time I'm in T.O.) even if it's border line (an ippon will be given for kote even if it's aiuchi because the shinpan are just so used to giving it).
3) Match too long, shinpan hungry, want go eat.

Mingshi,

Did you just call Max's kiai good? MAX SOMEONE LIKES YOUR KIAI!!! Wow, I just never thought I'd see that happen. And to think I thought you had good taste :( .

I also can't see it.
According to the server your kote; "The file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." I guess it didn't like it, or you moved the file, or the file moved itself.

It's a shame I would have liked to have seen this foot-in-air method :)

ah maybe too much trafic in too little time

thats what happen when you abuse free servers i guess

sorry..

its a point, sometimes you just have to move enough, not clear across the hall :)

Raiza
26th November 2002, 12:13 PM
Darn, I can't see the video either...but since you're not one with the universe (and not many are without a little psychedelic help) I wouldn't award the point. However, you'll probably hear me cheering in response to the point on the video...:p

Max, you should post that one-legged picture of you!

heh ... I have to agree on the heavy use of debana kote in our neck of the woods ... I've both dished out and received some pretty questionable kote at shiai that have gotten the flags up--

qpuppy
26th November 2002, 04:57 PM
Sorry guys.. I think you should stop bagging Max about his kote hit... you have to remember that this is a shiai... not jikeiko. As long you can get a clear cut in show zanshin to the cut.. the point will be given....

Hmmm still... i'm surprised that the hikki-men was not given!!!!

Looking back at the video again.... I am reall surprise that the other guy didnt go for your kote before you went for the kill.... You faked the hit... but then left both your men and kote wide open.... maybe he was just in a mode of think "S***, what is he doing leaving yourself open"... but anyway.. nice win.....

woof woof :P
