View Full Version : Tenugui Material
Does Anybody know where i can get material to make tenugui? It's very hard to find where i live since it is such an odd size. I know it's standard in Japan, but nobody seems to carry it here in Ontario. Any help would be appreciated. I'm willing to order it, but if somebody knows of a place in southern Ontario (CANADA) that would be even better.
thanks
Greg, I don't understand?
I have a dozen or so from a number of countries - (I buy what I can when I visit a new dojo) - and although the fabric and size varies a little bit from one design to another it is just a strip of plain cotton sewn on two sides. They put more though and efffort into the wording and lettering than the actual cloth. Why not go to a local fabric store an buy a few yards?
If that is too much hastle, a number of e-stores will make custom tenugui for you, and save you the effort of sewing the edges. If you just need a few, I am sure that there will be a retailer or two at the Toronto competition this weekend that will have a selection for you to try.
Have fun,
Mark

Just some general info, because I cant remember the specifics.
In the Kabuki Theater district of Tokyo there are shops that sell only tenugui and material to make it. Maybe for future reference!

Thanks guys. I saw the other tenugui articles, but they didn't lead me to a place where i could find the material. The only problem with going to a fabric store and getting them to cut to size is that the 2 outside edges are not finished. They must have finished edges, at least on the 2 width sides. I'm gonna try china town in Toronto, unless anyone knows of a place. Thanks
