But 1 more quesstion..
I am planning writing many chinese characters on it..

It would be cool if you could show us pictures. I would love to see the creations of people.

Do it by paint. I've painted on cloth before and if you pick the right kind of paint, the calligraphy will remain intact.

Try getting small bottles of fabric acrylics from your local art shop. They come in all colours and you only need to iron it a bit on the reverse side for the paint to stay permanently.

Of course you can use cut-out stencils and create some artwork with fabric arcrylics as well.

The method Mingshi describes is an excellent way to do it, and as acrylics are water soluable (except when ironed on the back to fix it), its a relatively hassle free way to do it too.

Alternatively, to get quite a "traditional" look, you could do it by the batik (Sp?) method.

This is where you write the characters onto the cloth in wax, and throw it in the bath with one of the fabric dyes you can get from any craft or sewing supplies shop. after the time indicated on the dye package, remove it from the bath and throw it in the washing machine on a warm wash with no detergent. The wax melts and runs away, leaving your design clearly visible as the original fabric colour (with luck!) It works because during the dyeing, the wax stops the dye getting into the fabric.

I have seen a japanese TV show where it showed them dying noren by a very similar method. If you want to be super-clever you could even get some proper indigo dye, but that could be messy!

Would be good to see some pictures

sorry, got that slightly wrong. Wash after dyeing to fix the dye, then iron the fabric between two sheets of newsprit (newspaper that hasn't been printed on) or some other thick absorbant paper. The wax then soaks into the paper, and your design looks neat

enough craft tips, its ruining my macho image

I know Kendo Does belong to the catagory of the "Cultural of Japan."

During the Sui dynasty( 580-618 AD )-Early Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907)of China, Many Japanese scholars were sent to China learn the basic law and many other cultural things.
At that time many Japanese bought back many chinese weapons , one of them
is 剣 . when they bought it back they change the way of using it and made many changes to the sword. I m not saying Kendo came from China but i could say it has a lot of chinese RuJia ( 儒家 ) cultural inside of it.
there might be a chance some of the koreans learned the chinese way
before the japanese..so some of the koreans are saying kendo came from korea. since 2 countries are so close with each other..

China , Japan , Korea
three major Rujia cultural Countries in the world right now.

Just making a point here to tell some of our friends who have trouble
with understanding the history of kendo.
