Hi,

I am not sure if you really are serious or if you are trolling (reading your other posts...)

But letīs assume, you are serious:

Alex Bennett Sensei (one of the guys that run Kendo-World) travelled to Iran a few weeks ago and probably he can give you some hints about the situation in Iran and the surrounding countries.

In any case you HAVE to be member of the local Kendo Federation, if you want to take an exam. (Otherwise you could paint yourself a diploma and label yourself 10th Dan...)

Your Federation can also provide you with Information about the requirements to take the exam.

Last point: Forget about learning Kendo without a sensei in the long run. Maybe in your very special situation they will let you get away with taking your first exam (maybe like 6th kyu) with your "home-made" techniques, to honor your devotion and effort. But if you want to progress seriously you must find a dojo. Learning Kendo at home from a book or a video does not work, because you need the help of a sensei and a partner to practice with.

Kind regards

Iran or Israel, take your pick. Israel's kendo situation seems to be a bit more stable than Iran's, but you would need to train with them more than once!!

i know that learning kendo from a book is wrong and stuff, but it's not like i didnt try to find a kendo dojo

i once joined a jujtsu dojo claming that they are kendokas and i even participated in a seminar by kyoshi 8 Dan john howel of the british kendo association, but the thing is that these jujtsu people are like soooooo religious

their sensei would say: nooo they are christians you can't learn from them or he would say that they are from the unbelievers and stuff

i totally hate that i dont like this religious stuff entering any martial art coz if you have a faith in something keep it to yourself you dont go like saying these things about other people it's wrong.
another thing about them is that they dont follow anything that they have learned during the camp that we took with kyoshi howel i just left them coz they are not serious about kendo. i mean whoever heared about geting a dan degree in kendo in one year other than in japan.

thank you for your post again

Keep talking Kuwaiti Kendoka,

I am interested in your ideas. My only advice / suggestion is keep practising Kendo.

It doesn't matter if you learn from a book, DVD, cousin, stranger, just keep practising.

If you have the opportunity to meet a Sensei like Howell Sensei, you may learn more in an afternoon than in a year with someone else.

Just keep going :)

If a senior kenshi found it was worth his time to train with the members of your local club it is likely that they are worthy of your respect, and that you will learn more with them than on your own. You must also remember that as a junior, you are not in a position to be able to judge whether they are following his teachings or not. Go to practice, do the best you can , and when you travel (with the permission of your sensei), practice with other clubs. Have fun.

I agree with TIMELINE..just keep practicing, Make yourself a dummy to practice on, this will help you with many techniques. Rank is just a formality, Kendo lives in your heart.

John Howell is my sensei, our club is the Shinbukan based at Horsham, Sussex, in the UK, training every Monday evening, starting 19.30 hrs. He can be contacted through the British Kendo Association website, http://www.kendo.org.uk/
