Does anybody know of a bad which has a convenient way to hold a kodachi bokken along with longer weapons? The ones at bujindesign have what they call a tanto pocket, but it doesn't look long enough to hold a kodachi. Fishing the thing out of the bottom of a regular shinai bag is a pain in the neck.

Of course if you do it yourself you can make a shinai bag that has a mini pocket.

Hmmm...
Darkefaerie, do you know how one would go about making a bag like yours, but with a strap to sling over your shoulder? I was, at one point, looking at the eguchi bag with the strap, but being not too high in the $ dep, figured it might be far easier (and the bag would look nicer too, I'd imagine) and cheaper to make it myself. any ideas, pattern wise?
(for now, I have this greenish-blue one they give for free when you buy their starter package for $95, but I don't really like the design on it... too bland)

I hae made 5 different sword bags including 3 shinai bags of varrying size and design. You can make one with $4 of fabric.

I made my own shinai bag! It is a wierd shade aof green. I made it out of a bed sheet. I really dont care about the style or anything but it holds my shinai my bokuto and has room for another shinai.

I also made a shoulder strap and put that on it. And instead of making the normal shinai bag top, mine is a drawstring. It made a pocket on the inside for the tsuba and tsuba dome. Even though it has all this I think it could be better.

I'll post sum pics later.

I'm just wondering why you need to hold so many shinais, five shinai?

I just have two and only carry one to my practice.
Well, I guess everyone has their reasons, excuse me for being nosy.

I think the 'standard' amount to bring to a tournament or grading is three in case one (or two) break, but at practise I suppose it is not so much of an issue.

I only have one at the moment, but I have ordered three more to come with my Bogu!!!

I believe the shinai owner is responsible for any shinai related injury in Kendo. For the sake of other kendokas in your dojo, it is important to bring at least two shinais in case one splinters or breaks. By using two shinais, your shinai also last longer. I usually begin with using two identical shinais (same style and joint) and replace any broken starve as one start to brakes.

I also Have to carry my bokuto for iaido which is on the same days i have kendo.

hey just a question, do you place your shinais handle down or up? and is there a rule, that you cant place one up, and one inverted? coz i have a problem with my shinais.. theyre sorta 'big bellied' not sure if you guys have seen em but like basically theyre fatter around the waist.. so yeh.. is there a rule about that?

Everyone in my dojo places their shinai handle up but I read a forum about this once, and there was a lot of different opinions. You should do a search.

I'd say that the trend (due to conveniance, I'd assume) is handle up... but I've never heard anything about acual rules... it's a bag, one that has no effect on your kendo since it gets taken off b4 you start, and doesn't get back on till after you've bowed out.

While I think your system is great, I have been unable to understand how to do this too. How do I get matched shinais?

I have to order a few shinais in a little while so I have asked here on the forum about getting a bunch that are matched? But so far I have not found good advice on how to do this over the Internet.

What company will take a bunch of shinais, set them down next to each other, and line them up to find ones that match?
