Anyone know where I can see records of players who have won or competed for the Emporor's Cup (izzat the same thing as the World Championships?). Particularly, I'd like to learn more about Miyazaki, but also some other players, too.

Lessee, entered the All-Japan taikai 10 times, won it 6 times. Pretty much says all you need to know about Miyazaki-sensei's competitive record.

I'm looking at that list now, George. Too cool. I wish there was a way we could learn more about these guys. (Prolly not much in English though, eh?)

I'll be darned but it's cool as heck that I have attended seminars here in the states with both Eiga and Iwasa. Both really, really cool.

Ive beaten Eiga at table football (thats "soccer" for you Americanos et al) ... now *THAT* was cool!

We've also been known to call it Foosball, my friend!

Air Hockey is only fun for children and drunks, hit and hope for the best. Foosball requires skill, sharp reflexes and zen-like concentration. The competition can be downright intense!

(I'd go as far as saying I've majored in foosball for a good portion of college)

er.. and Go is fantastic. Not really related to foosball or air hockey, but it just is...

Nice try, Gorget!

Now, I am an overgrown child, and a part-time drunk, but I really must disagree that air hockey doesn not require skill. It is the closest thing to a furious kung fu battle you'll find in an arcade. Foosball - what, pulling and spinning all those knobs? Pfeh!

I think the first step would be to stop spinning the bars and perfect a good wrist-flick. Ever seen a game between two people who really know how to play?

As for being a part time drunk; you too? Here I thought it was just me!

*thinks* Reply in PM if you get the urge, no sense bloating this thread too much.

Well, if I started it, does that make it "my" thread? Muahahaha!

Being a real drunk takes skill and commitment, I must say. Today's boozers are way too lazy and unambitious. ;)

I think the problem is that too many boozers use alcohol as an escape. Why can't anyone just enjoy booze for what it isf? Downright selfish really. Imagine how the alcohol feels!

At least up here we have a respectable constitution. Lobby to drop the legal drinking age to 13 and start teaching it as a course in highschool. That'll solve all the problems!

In addition to winning the championship a record 6 times, he is also a World Champion at the 10WKC in Kyoto, Japan.

He also was the first person to ever win the All Japan championship back to back and then win back to back again in 98 and 99.

He has also placed second twice losing to Eiga in 2000 and his brother in 1997.

I think he also placed third once or twice...I don't quite remember...So, In the 11 times he has been in the All Japan Championships, he's placed in the top four 9 or 10 times...amazing....

Bottom line is that he has had an amazing competitive career and is still successful in competition...I think he just won the All Japan 7 Dan Competition several months ago too.

He's an amazing guy, and also when you see footage of him more recently you see that his kendo is changing, becoming more seiken. This is so interesting to me, here's a guy who is probably the most successful competitive kendoka ever, yet he still feels the need to improve. And still *has* room to improve. This is a great thing about kendo. I never feel bad when sensei give me advice about my kendo, because I know their sensei are giving them advice :)

I dont know if you guys saw the kaeshi do of masahiro miyazaki against Ishida (was it ishida or eiga?, both are big dudes) in the all japan #45. If not go watch that tape, it's hillarous. His zanshin on that do- is very stylish.

He got some criticism of his small men strikes in the past, I heard, until they slowed the tape down and found out his strikes were bigger than they'd realized, just very fast!

One of our staff, Michael Komoto, has been to a seminar with him, and said that his kihon is superb, as straight as they come. No 'shiai only' kendo there.
