It is difficult for many of us outside of Japan to purchase DVDs of Japanese kendo tournaments (except for the All Nippon, which comes around once every year).

I understand that the Kendo World Team is currently looking into the possibility of distributing Hide-san's new kendo video, but what about other tournament videos such as the All Police Tournament, All University Tournament, and the All High School Tournament etc, etc? I am sure quite a few would be happy to see it if it should become available.

As a way for Kendo World to minimize its costs, it may simply act as a distributor on a cost-plus basis and just pass our orders to the appropriate sellers of those videos? All we need is a way to buy those videos! :D

Count me in. While I was lucky enough to gain a copy of the 52nd All Japans, it would be great to gain access to others.

In order for them to go there to film: plane, hotel, equipment from downunder will cost about $4000. Plus, they have take a time off from work to watch this. Once they film this, they need to edit them which will takes about a month. After they made master copy, they need to produce this. At least 1000 copies, minimum. They probably need to spend about $7/Dvd copy. So they need to spend at least $11,000 to produce such DVD film. I have not include any time off they have to take from their work, as most of them already have full time job. They probably need more than 5 kendokas to buy them... See, life is not that simple...

Sorry guys if I wasn't being clear in my original post.

I did not suggest for the Kendo World team to go and make a video of the various tournaments, but only to act as the middle man by offering more tournament videos already available in Japan.

What I meant by "cost-plus basis" referred to that Kendo World Publications could offer a video at such video's "cost + X percent mark-up as profit". It's a common enough approach to doing business. This way they need not keep any videos in stock, and the profits they make will go towards a worthy cause. :D

Do they have DVDS in English. I cannot understand the Japanese so it would be difficult to understand what they say.

Can I use the Japanese DVD in my player in the US? They have different codes, right?
