Bamboo vs. Fiberglass Do
I'm thinking about purchasing a nice set of bogu that will last till I retire. Currently I have machine made 3mm with 40 piece fiberglass do. I wouldn't know what the difference would be with Bamboo do since I have no experience. But it seems about $300-$400 difference just to upgrade do with 50 piece bamboo.
I know bamboo is probably right choice for hand made 1.2 bu bogu set. Besides the point it sounds nice, are there any practical/functional advantages in having bamboo do?

It's more shock absorbant... and stronger.. but is slightly heavier.... Fiberglass do tend to lose shape abit after long years of usage... but bamboo hold shape much better!!!

I've been using fiberglass do for four years now cause it's the standard issue for our club and for the simple reason that it's the cheapest and most practical for every beginner who havn't decided if they will really stick to kendo for the longest time. Personally, I never noticed any changes since I bought it, it still has the same feel and comfort eversince I bought the set for over a $100.00 only.

If you really intend to buy a bamboo-slated do, though its far more expensive than the fibreglass, make sure that your commitment in kendo is in order. Otherwise, you might feel shortchanged if you buy something that only your closet will own in the end.

I got a 4mm set and a 3mm set. The 4mm has a paper fibre Dou which is good. It'll do the job.

The 3mm I bought with a 60bamboo dou and it is my baby...I only wear it a takai...ooo, no grubbers are gonna mark my baby (hugs dou...smooch smooch) :D
