If, during suburi, my shinai makes air-whirring sounds, does that mean I'm swinging right, wrong, or theres something wrong with my shinai? I don't remember hearing it before, although that might be tributed to loud kiai-ing during practice lol.

In my experience its not right or wrong, it sounded like that when i first started and it still does, thats just the sound certain objects make when they move fast through the air =)

Hmmm. It could mean that you should put the lightsabre down and back away slowly.

Vrmmmm... Vrmmmmmm. *Breathing effects.* :D

Cheers,

Matt.

It kind of depends...

If you are cutting straight, which is good, it will make the sound. But it will also make the sound if you are muscling(bad) it through the air to go fast. But if you don't feel tensed up, and your form isn't shifting around it is probably that you are cutting straight.

Have you talked to your sensei about this? Sounds serious.

Or maybe it's just air going through your shinai coz' it isn't tight ?

I heard the whirring sound is common.. more like a "woosh"

But i only get it sometimes. Usually on that rare lucky strike where everything comes together for me.

I would probably hear it more if the dojo wasn't so loud with kiai and fumikomi. and the aikidoka on the opposite side of the divider curtains OOSing their hearts out and slapping the mats.
