Hello everyone!
I wanted to share with those that might be interested, my latest "procurement"... which happens to be a pipe that I had commissioned with a famous pipe maker/craftsman/artisian working out of New York. The three links below should take you to photos of my new "Katana pipe" which I personally believe is extraordinary and a thing a beauty! Honestly... I don't know when I'll get up the nerve to actually put some tobacco in it and smoke it... since just by doing so, will depreciate its value.

I would gladly welcome anyone's and everyone's comments about this pipe! What do you think?

This is quite possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

Looks kinda neat, but something doesn't quite sit right about sticking swords in your mouth... even though it is just a pipe...

Who said anything about sticking it in your mouth? Gazing at it is enough... but it's a funny thought. Good idea for a present to! I'm gettin' my sensei one of 'em puppies!

Richard: Hope you have a few hundred dollars... because the puppy set me back big time. Being entirely made by hand, it cost me more than what a basic set of complete bogu would cost. No kidding.
Alas... I'm not even sure my own sensei would really appreciate it, for what it is. Most people look at this sort of item, and after I tell them what I paid for it, they pause and say... "You paid WHAT???"
Beauty and cost... is in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

Yeah, I guessed it'd be somewhere around there. Seems that a simple cake will have to do for now. *sigh* Really nice piece of work, though.

Like it or loathe it.. it certainly is stunning... a unique piece and a testament to your obvious twin obsessions of Kendo and Smoking....
Nice one!

Now, that's the kind of thing where disposable income is handy!

I bought a hand made bokuto, done in South American rosewood (cocobolo) that cost $200, that has never and will never be used. When people come into my office (who know what it is and can appreciate the work) they get to enjoy the work, as do I. Everyone wants to handle it. And then, I get to polish it again.

Though i'm not into smoking, i do feel that it's an awesome piece of work. Did you design it or just gave the artisan the general idea?

I provided the artisan a general idea of what I wanted to be encorporated into the pipe... and two months later, he contacted me and informed me that he was near completion, which surprised me because he never really stated that he would do the piece. Anyway, I almost freaked because with his announcement that he we near completion, I was greatly concerned that the opportunity for what I wanted... how I wanted the pipe to look, was lost. But to my huge amazement, the pipe artisan did a better job that I would have thought possible.
I'm not really into smoking... if I smoke (a pipe), its typically only three to four times year... such has been my track record for the last few years anyway. I just like to collect pipes...and have been doing so for the last 10 years. So, when I started kendo over six months ago I began thinking about a theme pipe for that. There are plenty of bamboo shanked pipes, but not any that I had ever seen which basically resembled the characteristics of a Japanese shinken. So I thought, why not approach one of my favorite pipe makers to learn whether he'd entertain the notion of creating a theme pipe for me?
As you've seen, he did and I adore the outcome.

I guess it would be too expensive to reproduce, right? Well, still looks great and I imagine that most people who enjoy a good pipe and plays kendo, would find your design intriguing. You better slap a copyright on that people someone sees it and trys to steal your idea!
Best,

Imagine a bogu water bong... the do was actually a chamber of water that you could suck the smoke through.

Make one of the gasmask smokers out of a kendo helmet with the plastic around it.

I don't think the "grass" smoking apparatus posts fits in this forum at all.
