There is an interesting article at the site http://www.strangehorizons.com about kendo and kumdo.....go to the site and look for something like The Rising Sun vs the Morning Calm....there is even a mention of Kendo World Magazine in the article.....I think it is worth reading....Jerry

Finally an article that can end the war of words between kendo and kumdo fans. I agree with the idea that a new style has been developed. Certainly a point well told.

What on earth makes you think an article like that is going to end any "war of words"? It doesn't make any new statements, and takes largely the Japanese viewpoint* with a nod towards the athletic excellence of Korean kendo. Koreans who believe or promote kumdo as a Korean-originated activity are not going to read that article and think "hmm, I must have been wrong all this time".

*The Japanese viewpoint is that kumdo is kendo by another name, any history which points to Korean origins is revisionist.

The Japanese viewpoint is that kumdo is kendo by another name, any history which points to Korean origins is revisionist.

And that sounds pretty right to me. Kumdo actually *is* kendo with korean terminology and fancy color adjustements.

Perhaps there has been a misunderstanding. The kendo vs. kumdo argument so far on this forum has been as academic as Òmy daddy has bigger muscles than your daddy.Ó IÕm sick of it and wish it would end. In fact IÕm absolutely disgusted by the revisionist political and historical theories on both sides because I'm both Korean and Japanese. However, at least somebody has tried to grapple the historical validity of the issue. Let this issue be decided on the court. SHOBU!
