Got my 3rd KYU

Now i must start getting up earlier and running on the treadmill so that i won't die of exhaustion when my bogu arrives.

Wow KOMA you're lucky that you didn't have to cut so much.

For my 3rd kyu I had to execute 5 to 6 cuts (or cut til yame is called) of:

Kihon men
Kihon kote
Kihon doh
Kote men
Kote men doh
Kirikaeshi
Uchikomi-geiko

In full bogu of course.

We had a lot of kids testing, and a lot of people without bogu... so i guess they just left it at "men uchi.. kote uchi.. etc" to standardize it
Uchikomi geiko would be brutal for some of us (but i like it)
from doing these exercises the sensei judged where we should be placed on the kyu scale.
anybody testing for 2nd kyu had to do keiko in bogu

after the grading they gave people who reached 3rd kyu an open invitation to wear bogu, so that was nice :D

Koma, congratulations on your promotion. I go up for promotion next month. Our sensei believes in not promoting until after you have worn bogu for a few months. It's tougher, but not so tough that you can't pass.

As each federation determines the requirements for passing up to nikyu, there is no reason why you should feel anything but a sense of accomplishment. It's hard enough to go up for a test, so the fact that you passed and made sankyu should make you feel great and motivated for your next promotion!
