Hello, i'm new to this forum.

My question is, has anyone had problems with leather shinai bags. I have always used a fabric one, but a friend told me that you can't have a shinai without a leather bag. (:p ). But I also heard that they get torn very often.

A good-quality leather shinai bag will last for years and years. They are pretty expensive, which is the only reason most people don't have them. You certainly don't "have" to have one.

you don't "have to have" anything :) some friends of mine even have home made shinai bags, and let me tell you they're frikkin stylish :)

i just use a gun case for my shinai, bokken and iaito
its not made of leather and its fleecy lined so it does the job perfect

it means i havnt spent a load on a case so i can buy other stuff i need

dont let other people tell you what to do, be yourself man
