Sorry if this becomes a double post... Had a little trouble here.
This was found in a Norwegian newspaper. Apparently, Pepsi has a new commercial where Beckham is a martial arts expert. I don't know about you all, but he shows excellent form in this picture

One question: Does he intend to keep the red transport threads all through the commercial?

I still want to know who will take the blame for "training" Beck, Beyonce, and J-Lo.

I doubt all blame can be pointed at whoever "trained them." That person could be standing just out of view of the camera committing seppuku because the director refuses to listen to him in some attempt to make things more dynamic or some such crap. It wouldn't matter.
The people making the commercial have little care of authenticity, they just want excitement. In reality, who is going to know any better? Very few people. Just like every allergy drug commercial that has some chick swinging a golf club while millions of golfers (who clearly outnumber kendoka many times over) groan at her improper grip and swing plane. Or any movie/tv show that has a clueless actor trying to ride a skateboard or play an instrument. This happens in every discipline, just chuckle and forget it.

Have you ever seen the actual ad?
I told a friend I was practicing kendo, then she saw the comercial and told me, "now I know what is kendo, I saw a TV ad..." and because I had'nt seen it I just said to her, "Whatever you saw, it was not kendo, I'm sure of it". Anyways, I would like to see it, I tried the pepsi page and it doesnt come there. I dont have too much time to watch TV so if any of you guys find the ad online, please post the link.
Thanks.

It depends on what you call excelent form.
Why does he have the tsuba on top and the tsuba dome between his hands?
Why is he grabbing the shinai like a baseball bat?
What kamae is that?
Why is he wearing the gi outside the hakama?
Anyways, its not kendo, its just a TV ad. Like mushinman and nebosuke said, just watch it, laugh and step trough.

You forgot to point out that the little red ties on the shinai are still there, though it doesn't really have to do with form.

I mean.......damn....! it's pretty obvious ...when the tsuba keeps going up and down.......that you have to put that piece of plastic up there........

hey! I wear my gi outside my hakama sometimes! I think it looks/feels nicer than with it all bunched up underneath. Of course, this is AFTER all the sweaty, tiring practice that Mr. Beckham probably had skipped on.

I still want to know who will take the blame for "training" Beck, Beyonce, and J-Lo.Maybe it was the "Mystery Sensei" who trained the ever elusive David Lee Roth. For more info check the David Lee Roth thread.:)

For entertainment: 10
for fake kendo with splits and backflips: 10
for reality: 5
for never wanting to see this commericail again: 10.
It was okay, for entertainment purposes. for an actual match, no way. Although I must admit to do the splits and stuff could of took some training... but whatever. I'm okay with it.... sort of.

I was wondering what santa was doing on an arabic TV commercial so I phoned J Lo to ask her.
J. Lo. Well Meru dear, you see santa got his sledge bogu'd and he came into the studio to get out of the reindeer. HO HO HO.
Santa. Also I had so much chimney soot in my throat that I said to myself...
"santa, I Mustafa pepsi, but I find that this frigin machine won't work.
Kind Arabic Kendoka. Here, let me help, I'm kendo good at this!
Santa. Thanks men. By the way where's Beckham, I thought he was part of this thing?
J. Lo. He was summoned back to Beckanam Palace by his Queen Victoria. She was worried that he might use his new shinai on some strange men.
Santa. Oh my god, I've just remembered, Beck doesn't know the first thing about kendo, I hope someone tells him to remove the red packing strings and the spare tsuba!!!
By the way where would you like me to put this christmas tree?
Fairy. OH OH! here we go again, my ass is still sore from the last time............

Ah! Thankyou. And yes, I will... on both counts :)
I don't see Bob or Aden very much though, I'm working on Sundays these days, which is when they do Iaido training. It's always fantastic when they (very rarely!) show up for kendo training on Tuesday nights.

Forgive me for this, but who IS David Beckham and why is he all over the Kendo World website? I take it he's famous enough in Manchester and in Spain as a star, but since I don't watch a whole lot of sports on TV, I wouldn't know who he is, nor why he is dressing up as a kendoka, albeit incorrectly.
Tsuba-dome between the hands indeed. Who are they trying to kid?
Thanks to everyone for their patience with me.

David Beckham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Beckham) (link to Wikipedia article) is a football player (soccer) who although undoubtedly very good is grotesquely overrated. He is perhaps more famous because of his celebrity life (including marrying my favourite Spice Girl)
