killing has nothing to do with kendo, and it seems tome you are a little slash happy. Sure slashing can be very useful for imporving technique if you are training with a sword, but other than that it has no place.I sincerely hope that you do not think that you will have to kill someone in your lifetime.

anyone seen lone wolf and cub series? (movies, not cartoon) Samurai X is the name of the 3 DVD set involving the Original Kenshin Anime, which was spawned from the manga. Rorouni Kenshin: The Wandering Samurai (Series) wasn't made by the creator of Kenshin, but rather a development team...

I'm ignoring it. *gasp* It's a silly poll. I think there is pollitis going around. I don't want to catch it! :D
--------------
Samurai X-san, do you practice Kendo(I don't mean teaching yourself. That's not doing Kendo.)? If you don't, I would be happy to help you find a dojo. Just ask. Just be warned that they'll work your rear off and wipe that silly grin off your face that you had when creating this poll, in the dojo. :D Not kidding!
Really though, it's a lot of fun, but a lot of hard work too. And, it will shape you personality.
Well?

That's true. There's a reason behind it too, but I can't remember it. It was specifically for the US though, that they changed it, if I remember right.(Could be wrong...)
I hate that title for the OVA. It sounds sooo... erm, blase I guess. It's not fitting at all.

THANKS GUYS!!By slashing, I'm going to take it has tapping someone with a sword. I think what you mean to say is a diagonal cut. As stated, kendo has nothing to do with killing. In Kenjutsu, diagonal cuts are widely used where needed. I have little experince with Kenjutsu this far, but diagonal cuts are good for quick replys, they naturally have *some* Aerodynamics to it.

Samurai-x-san, the ancient arts of sword, in whichever culture, had its origin in warfare. To kill and protect. However, kendo, rather than a killing sword has been referred to as a life giving sword. The "do" is a path or way to better oneself by the practice and discipline of kendo. There are many activities in the Japanese culture that utilize this "do" idea that originated from Zen Buddhism during, and even a bit before the Tokugawa Era in Japan. Most of the traditional kendo players that I have met suggest that you do not just play for yourself (although most people on here would probably disagree with that), you play for your opponent and he plays for you. Just meaning that you take into consideration your opponent, make correct strikes and show the proper respect. So the event will raise the spirits of both players. Old philosopy that it rarely spoken of these days.
Kendo is a never-ending path that leads to one's personal development.
Thanks
Alex

I think you mean Pollio, a disease which causes the person to poll incessantly and incontrollably.

I think you mean Pollio, a disease which causes the person to poll incessantly and incontrollably.I agree!!!! Someone should create a poll just to see if anyone really likes polls or not. And then we can vote on that..... wait......OH CRAP, I think I caught Pollio!!!!

I think you mean Pollio, a disease which causes the person to poll incessantly and incontrollably. Polio(You wrote Pollio.) is an actual disease which causes paralysis. That's why I used "Pollitis." There are diseases/illnesses with the -itis ending. :) "Pollitis" means exactly the definition above, which is what I was getting at.
One way you catch it is by participating in a poll, thus making you want to make a poll.

I know what polio is (and it doesn't cause paralysis, it causes loss of motor control :) ) Writing pollio with a double "l" is deliberate as I think it makes for a better pun as it forms a homophone word rather than just a po-mo add-on. Therefore both pollio and pollitis mean the same thing but one is more subtle (guess which one) and witty (if such a thing can count as wit) than the other.
Sometimes jokes just go completely over you eh? :p

Yes it does.

But, mine still sort of works, as polio is short for Poliomyelitis, I found out.(I hadn't known that.) But yeah, yours is more subtle. *sniff!* I was trying to be funny for once. Waaaaaa!!!

I have the first one on DVD...awesome. White Heaven in Hell was really, really ridiculous. The sword work in that movie is astounding... particularly the way the main character returns his sword to the saya. Wow. The first three are pretty good, but I think they get a little silly after a while. Plus the sexual scenes are a little much. I want to get some copies of the manga too. Anyone read these?

Yes, slashing should be stopped. A year or so ago, riding the bus to work I fell fast asleep. After my stop was called, I woke up, got out and walked to the office. It was only after a few hours at work did one of my staff tell me ... "sir, your pants have been slashed". Going through my pockets, I saw what the thief was after, my tiny cell phone. He had missed the pocket and slashed his way to reveal my fair and somewhat hairy thighs. Did you mean that kind of slash?

Apparently, you didn't get the story from the series. When Kenshin was first trained as an assassin, he was cut on the left cheek while fighting with Tomoe's fiance. When Tomoe was dying, she cut across the first scar, making a cross-shaped, or "X" on his cheek. Hence, Samurai X.
His original name was Shinta, but Hiko felt it was much too soft for a swordsman's name, so it was changed to Kenshin. I have no idea where "Himura" came from, since I see it only in the series.
Yes, I'm an infidel and proud of it! (Saw a pic of bin Laden firing an AK-47, too bad it was pointed the wrong way)

My personal opinion is that slashing takes away from the technique and perfection of Kendo.
This is of course my own personal opinion and i am sure that there are alot of people who feel that it does have its place, i just do not see it.
