Hello all, I've been doing kendo for a few months now and the keigoki and hakama I've ordered came in the other day. According to the Tozando website, a size three keikogi should be able to fit me (based on my height), but it seems as though the sleeves are a little long. The sleeves run just a little past my wrists. About how long should the sleeves run, and if they're a little long, should i pop it into the dryer and try to shrink it a little? Also, how low should the bottom part of the keikogi reach? Many thanks in advance.

The sleeves should reach to about where the end of your kote would be.

Can't comment on the dryer, I only hang mine outside, no dryer.

The bottom of the keikogi doesn't seem to be a huge problem to me because it gets tucked inside your hakama. If you aren't tripping over it and aren't weighed down by it, then why change that. Of course I could be wrong, or just plain lazy and wouldn't want to change it.

Sorry, I am only a little helpful.

my gi sleeves go a little bit past my wrists too. I'm too lazy to put it in the dryer... I still can practice with that. The bottom part end a little bit below my knees. I have no problem with my gi! It's heavy (it's thicker than everybody else's) and hot but you'll get use to it...

My gi is also a bit too large. The bottom part ends a little before my knees and the sleeves a bit after the beginning of the kote. The biggest problem is that i'm too thin for it :ermm: (well, I've got my ideal weight...). I always have to straight out the pleats on my back.
By the way...I ordered it from to Tozando, too - in a size that should fit for me

It might be best to roll up your sleeves, so that the excess is inside, not outside, and pin them with a safety pin or two, until you can get them properly hemmed. If you're still growing, get someone to hem the sleeves without cutting off the excess fabric, that way you can let them down later.

keiko-gi are often taken up from the shoulder as well. ask someone in your club how to do this.

Wrist-lengtht keikogi are not Ok, and might get prohibited in shiai since it hides the kote. I never saw it happen tough.

Ideal lenght is just touching the upper end of the kote.

Your gi will shrink in time any way. Don't put it in the dryer - if it shrinks too much you're stuck.

Confounds idea is quite practical but don't use the pins - major safety issues here, for you and your training partners.

Rolling the sleeves up in or out would be fine and is a method used often.

There is a double sided tape you can buy at most fabric stores the is used to hem material that you just put between the material and iron with a hot iron....the glue sticks to the material and holds it is place...this should work without using pins or cutting or sewing the sleeves and it can always be pulled out at a later date if you want to sleeves longer...if your length is below the knees that sounds long but it your keikogi is big everywhere a washing or two should shrink it up some....

don't make the sleeves too short though. the gi helps you absorb all those nasty kote-uchi that miss the kote.

as for the bottom part lenght. i heard it is important to cover the open sides of the hakama with the gi (so it should be long enough for that i suppose).

i've seen some ppl in my dojo sporting their underwear under the hakama cause their gi was too short.

if you are a girl and have an under-hakama hello kitty boxers show off i guess it's ok and ppl won't say anything tho.
