Stupid thing

I accidently sprayed one of my shinai with gass (WD-40 type), it looked like my shinai's ruined can I "fix" it some way, I tried scraping it off but I can still see the residue and the gass smell stays.

Probably not, once the stuff has soaked into the bamboo fibres. You might like to try running a cloth wetted with turpentine over it to clear whatever is on the surface, not sure what affect it will have if any on the bamboo itself.
As for the smell, you might like to put some scented oil on it - I quite like sesame oil.

the last thinkg I need is having my shinai burst into flames in a keiko or shiai due to friction, come to think of it.......
