So the country flags on the forum... What are they to represent? Your location, place of birth, citizenship or ethnicity? I've seen some combos where the locations don't match the flags. Just wondering what they were intended to communicate. Thanks! :D

I don't know what they are really for, but my flag shows where I was born and where I live. :silly:

I have a feeling people put the flag of where they are right now and they write where they are from.

mine's the opposite. i put the flag of my nationality/where i was born and then i put the name of my location.

No rule, but for me, flag for nationality, location for where I live.

maybe some people feel embarrassed for where they come from. see, i´m from austria and i´m not proud of it, no way.
i thought of 3 choices for a flag - austria, where i live, jamaica, cause i love reggae-ragga-dancehall and japan, where i wanted to be, ever since and love for martial arts.
but i guess everyone would have japanese flag in that case ;-)

perhaps it is more psychologically, when we don´t know, where someone else is really from, we feel insecure, because our prejudices on nationalities cannot be applied, minor or major ones.
i´m thinking of those "traditional" rivalries among citizens, usa vs canada, austria vs germany, japan vs china, france vs great britain etc.

just early sunday thoughts, never mind ;-)

Was just reading "The Salmon of Doubt" by Douglas Adams, a posthumous collection of assorted stuff. Comparing the US and Canada, he said that the USA is like a "belligerent adolescent boy" wheras Canada is like "an intelligent 35 year old woman". He then went on to say Australia is like Jack Nicholson, and then ramble on for quite some time about how much he liked Australia.

Adams said it, so it must be true.

That Adam's saying about Australia being akin to Jack Nicholson - I'm not sure if that's a compliment! :D
