I've robbed this from a thread on E-Budo (So if the guy who posted on there is here sorry for robbing your posts :D )
Kata Cartoons (http://www.biwa.ne.jp/~nogawa/kata/kata.html)
They are very good apart from Kata number four now being wrong. Since the changes in the Kata.

Ha ha it's cool, despite the fact the animation is not perfect but i guess its the best they can do with this.
I am just a Novice in Kendo (5 Kyu) and i only practice the Kata 1,2,3 et 4, but i see the 7 is great :)

At the risk of sounding really dumb, what changes in kata? From what I could make out in the animation, I didn't see anything that looked blatently wrong to me...

The changes are to Kata number 4 are,
This has come from Sumi Sensei. So it can't really come from a better or more qualified source.
The intials cut from Hasso and Waki, are now alot closer and are more iuchi (sp?), than just a big cut into the nothing. There should be more of a feeling that if you finished the cut you would both be cut. When you pull down to what was chudan and issoka-itto-no-mai (SP?) it is now chudan at chikka mai which means you are obviuosly alot closer. This then means that the only thing you can do, is tsuki. When explained to me, it made alot more sense to be quite honest.
Because you are at chikka mai, you probably wouldn't want to cut you as you where to close, because shidachi releases bit of pressure/centre you would want to tsuki as it is the only thing left for you.
This change is now expected in all BKA (British Kendo Association) grading's I believe. So I guess it is now the norm certainly in England anyway.
Hopfully some of the BKA people can back me up on this, I would be interested to know if this is being taught any where else ???

hey Gareth
less than a month ago, Kurasawa sensei 9th Dan Hanshi also explained to us the new changes in yonhonme kata(better source than yours, hah! :D)
you pretty much said it all already, so i'm just gonna correct spelling i guess:
aiuchi = simultaneous attack
issoku itto no maai = distance of 'one step attack'(kensens slightly crossed)
chikai maai = close distance(as opposed to toi maai)

Yep sorry about the spelling, I know it is terrible.
What about two pair, surely two 8th Dan Hanshi beat one 9th Dan Hanshi.
Or would we have to start playing Kendo Pokemon and use power up cards :D :D

ummmm. that seminar was like, one 9dan hanshi, three 7dan kyoshi, and several 6dans.
besides, 9dan was banned i heard(somebody confirm this please?). no mortal on this planet will turn 9th dan anymore if that.
so don't try to beat my cool pokemon kendo team grrrr :D :D :D
