Does anyone here play the Chinese/Japanese/Korean Game of Wei'Qi, Igo, or Baduk? Just wondering. All of the respective names are in their language. Example:Go in China is Wei'Qi, and in Korea, it is Baduk, in America it is simply 'Go.'
Peace and Love.

I've played it before. I'm no good at it! Its just like kendo. I'm no good at that either! ...I guess I need more practice.
Anyway... ^^; Go is a pretty cool game.

yeah ^^ I was about 15 kyu when I last stopped playing. I probalby got a stone or two weaker from not playing. But I'm fine-tuning my skills again ^^ Anyone else play, and what rank are they at? We should play sometime at KGS. www.kiseido.com (http://www.kiseido.com) just select the link to the Go server, and ask me to play in this forum, with your KGS username.
peace.

=P You have an excuse! You can't be good at kendo if you haven't even tried it yet! :silly:

There's a guy here who started kendo because his Go sensei told him it would be good for his skill at Go. His name is ginger_something. Anyway it looked fun and I dloaded a free Go computer game... man its tough.

I play go, too. I actually started go before I started kendo, but I'm still horrible at go. Hmm... I'm probably worse at kendo though. It's really addictive once you start playing.

hehe. Computer go software can only reach (about) 11 kyu. Unlike chess, Go groups need to be anylazed, and each play changes the WHOLE board situation at the higher levels. Not to mention there are many more possible moves on a go board then on a chess board.

in the immortal words of vanilla ice... erm... word.
if it's of interest, this was the decidedly short-lived kendo and go thread from a few days back:

i was nidan, in go terms, when i was graded several years back, but i have to add, i was examined by the serbia-montenegro federation, and i suspect i'd probably still be ikkyu or shodan in the BGA.
the kisedo server's a good place to play, as is the massive microsoft server; that said, i use a steam-powered computer through a very slow connection, so haven't played on either since 2003. even a three-generations-back many faces of go kills the damn thing.
if anyone fancies knocking up a go AI program, there's some bloke in korea who'll give you a few million dollars if it can beat a reasonably well-trained korean 12-year-old. that said, i believe they're achieving perfect play on tiny boards, smaller than 9 x 9. if you can get that wee 9 x 9 igowin game to a level where it's not using any handicap stones in your favour, you're already cacking all over one of the better go engines on the market.
any go-related stuff'd be welcome; since i moved to the brutalist backwater that is reading, i've stopped thinking about go all that often, and would welcome the stimulation. that said, in my capacity as a young man with too much nut-juice, i find myself much prefering smacking people on the arm with a carbon-fiber tree-trunk to putting smarties down on a breadboard. that, and expressing completely unwelcome opinions about modern art.

Thats the funniest thing I've read all week.

you should hear my opinions on modern art.
incidentally, would i be right in thinkign you, anjin-san, are at UCL? there'll be a go club somewhere. and you'll be the coolest person their by several leagues, because the others'll all be pale, male and unkissed. steal their nerd-wisdom, get good at go, recieve the love of women.
works for me.

I wish I knew how to play Go. I downloaded the Igowin board and I always lose. I even got the "Interactive Way to Go" website bookmarked. *sniff!* I love Othello and am pretty good at that... I love Scrabble and play at the advanced levels. I can beat the computer at the expert level too. I love Chess also. But, I haven't anyone to play these games with at home. >_<
Oh yeah... forgot. This thread is about Go! Oops! :D

I started playing Go a few months ago. And I'm nikyu in kendo. Both are sooo addictive. I suck at both of them though. ^^;;

my problem with shogi, aside from the fact that i can't remember more than two rules for any given game, is in recognising the bloody pieces...
