Has anyone played Shogun: Total War? I think it's probably one of my favorite games ever.
Just a little recommendation for all my fellow samurai enthusiaists out there.

i still like the idea from another post about mixing up time and having all kinds of armies fight eachother, like civ III only better.

Civ 4 is coming, by the way.

Shogun is just great, like the other games from the tw series.

Hopefully they dont mess up civ 4, because i really like the other civ games.
Otherwise im really looking forward to this game.

I would really like to see a mix of civ and the total war series. The possibility to go through all time periods form civ and the cool tactic battles from total war.

The next game is actually a console third person hack and slash game called Spartan: Total Warrior.

Some kind of sci fi crossover where samurai travel to the past and take over the mediterranean would be hella cool, if only a bit silly. You should check out the mod community for rome total war, i'm still surprised no one has used the rome engine to re-do shogun in a mod.

It would be great if they could mix the realistic art of war of the TT series with some Dinasty Warriors Third person view fighting and add the Romance of the 3 kingdoms carreer mode :D

Too true... unfortunately total warrior looks like your run of the mill playstation third person button-mashing festival.

I have the whole Total war series but i suck at all of them, especially Rome total war

i kick but in shogun but medieval can be kinda tough

Yeah you actually have to play tactical... Rome is by far the easiest in the series. I think the arcani are a great idea... roman battlefield ninjas! That hide in grass until the last minute and all you see are these black hoods spring up doing nito ryu and hacking the barbarian hordes to pieces :beard:.

Sorry... had to geek out there for a second... I'm ok now.

Though I live for the day when they re-make Shogun with a Rome-like engine.

I lke the ninja guys too. I usually have a band of archani, possibly a cavelry unit and a general and go to town on any small sized army.

With that kind of setup you can pretty much throw tactics to the wind and attack full force (obviously not straight into a phalanx), finishing with minimal losses... but jesus I should be revising.

I haven't played Rome but I prefered Shogun over Medieval TW. I like the ability to really move troops by sea in MTW but in Shogun there were enough units to fight with, but not so many that it just gets super confusing. The troops in MTW are more varied but when they are all so similar yet clearly some are stronger and some are weak and I would just get so confused. Although Shogun does need a smarter AI to really bring it up to par with the strategy of the computer of the other later releases.

I have played Shogun and Mongul invasion addon Medieval and Viking invasion and now I am playing every now and then Rome too.

I just think it's dissapointing that you can't play the other countries.

I haven't took time to finish the game yet as I have too many other things to do but the others I have played till the end

I got lucky and beat the hardest level setting on Shogun Total War.
I just built a huge army and abandoned my provinces to go hunting for daimyos.
Killed all the daimyo and settled down in a province to kill off all the ronin provinces.

The worst thing with STW is that the difficulty is so diffrent between the different clans. I allways get's my ass handed to me unless I use Uesugi clan. But the game absolutely kicks ass never the less. The problem is that my opponents usually kills off eachothers daimyo and all there is left are some borring ronin. I think it was at my third attempt I first saw priests and Teppo ashigaru. The priest sure had a rough time.

I like the not-so-historically-correct units they come up with. Geisha assassins, kensai warriors, battlefield ninjas. Or in medieval the crusader fighting orders (Hospitallers, Santiago etc). They manage to be imaginative enough to be interesting but not soooo crazy that they ruin the experience. Rome does especially well with this, war dogs, screeching women, flaming pigs, druids...

I usually play on Moderate and use Mouri, but when I beat very hard I used Hojo. I can pretty much beat the game with any of the clans on Moderate, but up from there is another story.

I forgot to add the reason I like the Mouri clan is because they get a reduced cost on Warrior Monks. Those guys are so cool.

I wish they would make one based on the Gempei War.

Yeah, the best battles are where you lure the yaris in and the warrior monks/nodachis you had hiding in the trees come storming out at just the right moment :D

I think it's a long game to do this ( you'd have to be able to save and restart at later times), but it is unfortunate that you couldn't somehow set up a multiplayer version of the game that includes the strategy/buidling map and not just battles. Now that would be cool.

I recently saw preview of kingdom of heaven, methinks TW fans will like. Nowhere near as good as gladiator but good battle scenes all round. There's a particularly awesome scene where (spoiler) they use ballistas to bring seige towers crashing to the ground. Good stuff.

Hehe...yeh, the Mori clan is my second fav. I still like using Shimazu, mainly cuz I like Kyushu, heh. Still its also an easier area to defend because theres only one enemy to face and 2 places they can attack.

I played Rome Total War, but never tried Shogun Total War. I want to try it as i like samurai stuffs very much, but since RTW is recent compared to STW, i suppose there have been lots of improvement. Would the STW still be a nice experience?

I've played Shogun and Medieval. Rome is next on my list. That's part of the reason I got a pretty high end graphics card.. I love to fly in low and see my troopers in combat.

The funniest thing i've ever done in Shogun: Mongul Invasions... taken a Kensai and have him cut a bloody path through three regiments of riflemen. :)

I've been thinking about splicing some of the wav files in Shogun so that the advisor will say something like...

"My lord, your enemy daimyo is running like a... " "Nuclear Launch detected."
