Is kendo worth giving up pleasure for? For three years?

but if you are willing to give up pleasure for Kendo, then Kendo must be pleasurable enough to put everything else aside. In the end, you'd be pleasuring yourself for the 3 year span of no pleasure  .

I recently stopped writing on myself, listening to music, and all that other good stuff, to be more Aiki-like. So far, so good. I already feel less depressed. ^^

Why would you have to give up things you like just for kendo? Can't you just add kendo to the rest of the things you enjoy?

What do you mean by "pleasure"? It seems that your talking something specific.

If I had 3 years pure kendo, every day. A dream come true!
Edit: But count in Iaido too, and a little Aikido!

Oh yes. Kendo, Aikido, Iaijutsu, and maybe Kenjutsu. Kenjutsu and kendo are somewhat different :p

We only have so much time, energy, money, etc. The upshot is that every time we decide we want something, we also must consider what we'll be giving up to get it.
That realization is important because Kendo is not an activity like mountain biking where you can go whenever you want for as long as you want. Kendo training is group oriented and needs to happen on a regular basis. I tell potential students who come to my club that if they can't make a regular commitment to Kendo (i.e. at least once a week) for a fairly long period of time (i.e., at least three months) it really isn't worth starting. Beginners need a lot of attention and I am not interested in wasting my time on people who have no sense of commitment and who feel they can come (or not come) to practice whenever they please.

for 3 years, you can do other things. If "pleasure" is what you are seeking. Like go back to school and get another degree, that will maybe get your more money, or a better job. With that comes "pleasure". I've been doing kendo for almost 2 years now, and sadly. ..I haven't even began to taste "pleasure". 3 years isn't that long, then again it isn't that short either. Suppose if you practice very hard and you have very good instuctors, in 3 years time. ..maybe you will be a first degree black belt. But then, that's when the hard part really starts. I don't know what to tell you, kendo is something very rewarding, but pleasureable? I don't know. Unless you like hitting pepole and being hit, and sweat and the smell of indigo dyed cotton and dear leather. Hahahaha, kendo is good for everyone, but not everyone is good at kendo. This is something you are gonna have to decide for yourself!

Personally, if I had the chance to travel to a remote part of the world and practice kendo for 3 years and not have to deal with anything else, I would go undoubtedly...For most of us here, some of our other "pleasures" are getting less time because of kendo. Kendo is addictive for me...I can't sleep well if I don't do enough suburi and have to get out of bed and try and get outside. So yes...I would give many things to be able to practice kendo for a full 3 years.
