Hi all!
Just a couple of hours ago I and my 15yr old son took 6th Kyu grading and we both passed. We started Kendo in January this year and the next possible grading for fifth Kyu will be held in autumn. What a great way to spend friday night!
Boy do I feel great!

Congratulations! Your second big step on your journey up the mountain. Of course, the first big step was starting kendo, but now you've got something to look back on and see how far you have come. But remember to look ahead most of the time and only look back to see if those you are teaching are following you.

Well done !!! It is always fun to do Kendo with Son. Better if you can do with your wife...

Absolutely. There is no better way to deal with a domestic fight than a good keiko :D

Haha, well, luckily, gun-kata* is not part of kendo yet. :D
* gun-kata was used in the movie "Equlibrium" (or "Cubic" as it was called in Sweden by some strange reason), and is really cool. Not very realistic, but cool :D

It had the same odd name here in Finland too: the distributing company wanted the name resemble "The Matrix". Not very succesfully I might add.
Liked the movie though, as you said "Cool".

Yep. Especially the last battle with the evil guy's right hand. :)
To bring the thread back on the topic of grading, might add that I am going for nikyu on sunday. Now that will be interesting :D

Congrats on the new rank!
I always find testing to be terribly unnerving… At my last test I made the horrible mistake of not bowing to my opponent! I was just so used to routine practice… It was so embarrassing… but I passed just as well.
I’m still embarrassed by it though… Nowadays I always bow –just in case.

Thank you all for your congratulations!
congratulations to both, and let us know how those father-son-geikos work out^^
Since we haven’t bought bogus yet (maybe later this year or early next spring) our home-geikos have been quite polite. Luckily we do have a large lawn we can use for training with no nearby neighbours wondering "why are these people jumping and shouting and hitting each other with sticks wearing blue bathrobes"... :)
It is half past four in the afternoon, the sun is shining from a cloudless sky, 20 degrees centigrade with a nice cool breeze: it's time for a kata practise!

Back from summer holiday trip (yes, we did Kendo, not only sunshine and beer...)
For Piggy:
Translation from finnish to english:
"Onneksi olkoon, Tapio, ja hyvää juhannusta!"
"Congratulations, Tapio and have a nice midsummer day!"
