Congratulations Kirsty!

I hear you passed your rokyu examination. I knew you would.

P.S. Also congratulations to Eiliries for passing yonkyu (and your sister for passing rokyu).

You also all did very well at today's taikai. Way to represent.

Thanks! I guess the judges weren't terribly impressed with the whole jumping bit. Yeah, the taikai was good, even though I lost my first match, just spectating was amazing because everyone had such great energy!

i thought that was you. your drawing of yourself made it easy to recognize you. you did good in your match. just have to be a litlle more aggressive. don't let them intimedate you.

Well, they might not have been impressed by the jump, but it doesn't look like they held it against you. A two-grade jump is pretty good (at least it seems to be in the NCKF), I don't care who you are.

{Sidebar - For those who don't know what we're talking about: At the shinsa, after several kenshi entered the court and ended up short of the "blue line", the court manager came around and told us the judges were getting upset about people not getting to the line. He reminded those remaining that we need to start so that we can make it to the blue line by the third step. To be fair, the shiai-jo boundaries were not marked so you had to choose a reference point to make sure you started from the proper distance. Anyway, when Eiliries came out she took two normal steps, then realized there was no way she would make it to the line in one more step. Soooo, she took one giant leap to the blue line. Nailed the landing. Reminded me of Keri Skrug at the Olympics. Brought smiles to the faces of more than a few kenshi, and most of the judges as well.}

As for the taikai, most of us spend way more time as spectators than competitors. It's still a lot of fun to be around your fellow kenshi and watch some of the other matches, especially seeing some of the senseis from the other dojos - makes you realize there's a whole other kendo going on out there.

I'm impressed you could recognize Kirsty. I have enough trouble recognizing people from our own dojo once they have their men on (unless I can see their namefuda).

Thank you for the kind words RC, but two things are puzzling me, and they are as follows:
1) I do not get the Kerri Strug reference.
2) I can not for the life of me figure out who you are.

You still haven't figured out who I am? After I posted I realized that if you understood the Kerri Strug reference you and Kirsty probably have a pretty good hint as to who I am.

Actually, I just looked it up, and it wasn't that long ago that Kerri was on the front page. So maybe it wasn't such a good hint.

Let's see now, what would be a good hint? OK, here's one: I remember when you and your sister started at our dojo (you dabbled in European fencing didn't you?)

More hints later - if you need 'em.

I figured out who you are a while ago actually. I just never said anything. :silly: Of course, I could be wrong.

Good for you Kirsty. I never intended to keep my identity a secret, but it just sort of worked out that way.

I am still no closer to discovering your identity, a lot of people have been at the dojo longer than I have, and since I am a loud-mouth, it is no wonder that you know of my previous fencing experiences. The fact that you have propper grammar and spelling doesn't help much either...I need better hints!
Also I looked up Kerri Strug, and I still do not get it, the only notable thing was that she won a bronze medal in the Olympics for gymnastics, and hurt her foot...
