If on your campus there was a club that promoted martial arts (not just asain) discussion i.e. spirit, body, mind cultivation as well as a safe environment to train and study would you attend? Do you think it possible to get practicioners from kendo, iaido, tae kwon do, karate, boxing, fencing, judo, kenjutsu, tai chi, brazilian wrestling, caporia etc. to come and have discussions together, talk about their paralells?
I would like to start this kind of club but I want to have your opinions and thoughts on it's potential success or failure.

What is the purpose of this kind of club?
What do you hope to achieve?

I'd go! It would allow you to chill with other martial artists, possibly clear up any misconceptions by talking to actual practitioners, and maybe try some of them out.

You might get people in that wanna show how powerfull they are and wanna demonstrate moves and such, and then demonstrate move A of marial art A to move A of martial art B. Till something like that goes out of hand because this persons ego won't get satisfied.
What I am trying to say is, you will get alot of different personalities from different martial arts which have different perspectives to the world so you might wanna state some clear rules. There might be persons saying that their move would counter a certain move of the other persons martial art and then the other might wanna show this.
Just some things to keep in mind in my opinion.

I agree with the previous opinion. Its a fantastic idea but there are bound to be a certain number of meatheads(for lack of a better word)who want to prove themselves and compare the techniques from one art to another. Or people who just want to pick other arts to pieces.
I think as long as you make it clear at the start that everyone must be treated with respect and that it is a place for sharing and not competition. It would be a great idea and if I were there I would attend.
Go for it and Good Luck!

I totally agree. I used to room with a shaolin-do kid. Neither of us respected each others martial art. We had to settle with the fact that there is no ultimate martial art. Each one has its shining points and leave it at that.
I do not respect some other martial arts and i dont think they would respect mine. Meathead or not. We train to be bettere than everyone else, so to speak, and so do they.
This "meeting" would just turn into a flexathon. I would certainly not attend.

Well, I was kinda hoping that it could be on the more spiritual depth side and people could discover some of their commonalities instead of bickering over their differences. I guess I'll just wait and see.
