During striking practice today I hit a fellow in the thumb and was wondering what the repercussions of such a mistake might be?
I have only been involved in Jodo around 6 months so I'm not that knowledgeable on such things. Also this wasn't just a light tap it was a full blown Giakutai Uchii strike to the thumb, but luckily he wasn't seriously hurt.
I'm just nervous about my advancement after such a horibble mistake!!!

I wouldn't worry about it too much since he wasn't seriously hurt. If it were to happen repeatedly, then we would have to worry. I don't take Jodo, but I am pretty sure that accidents like yours happen all the time. I would apologize and move on, then assess what went wrong with the hit.
Regrettably accidents do happen - just be sure to learn from them. One of the first times I travelled up to Sydney to train in jo at the SMR dojo there, after previously only doing seitei, I hit one of the seniors on the fingers doing kuretsuke (?) (excuse appalling spelling) sufficiently badly to draw blood and give heavy bruising. Taught me a lot about the different timing and angles....
I was hesitant to go out on the floor again after that :) but am glad I did. So don't fixate on it.

two days ago we did a kata from siu ryu(we do very little from it) where one attacks and the other one parry and rest the jo on the neck and push you away,i did it with someone and instead of hitting me on the neck he whecked the jo on the side of my head.so yesterday im going to my kendo practice and i try to put my men on,and i find that the side of my head swell so much that the men didnt fit any more.but this things happen, and we can do nothing except for doing our best to preform the kata correctly, which will prevent this things from happening again.
