since i am new to kendo, the actions were less than perfect. but i did managed to scare one of the neighborhood dogs with my fierce MEN strike into the air(nowhere near the dog). who else does kendo outside?

Yeah I practice outside too, I mostly just grip the shinai with my left hand and do regular suburi to help give me faster swings. I like to scare around my dogs but wouldn't do it outside of my property(people might think I'm some kind of psycho.)

I haven't done it outside. I guess I could for the days that it isn't moist outside though. But I can opt for inside with my bokken provided I swing with caution.

the sun wears me out. Our club practices outside on the lawn once a week. Fun, Fun!

I've practiced outside of my mom's car after practice before. In front of a restaurant, minus the shinai and the kiai. I got the cops called on me because the people in the tanning salon next to the restaurant thought I was a crazy guy in a bathrobe casing my mom's car.
I don't practice outside anymore.

I pratcice suburis outside every now and then....
Also or dojo gave some introduction to kendo at a convention somewhere in Antwerp...
It IS pretty cool to be able to do a keiko outside in the sun, near the water though...

Outside is nice, but I find that you can't really do fumikomi all that well....

practicing outside is not very efficient , use your
time wisly at the Keiko.

i think that may depend some on what yor trying to do. it would be very effecient if your trying for pure conditioning(wich is part of kendo in relity) but for straight practice its realy not

Outside as in outdoors? or out of the dojo?
Sometimes the dojo doesn't devote enough time to kihon, or something you want to practice (i.e. your tokui/specialty waza), in which case your only choice may be to practice outside of the dojo (oftentimes at a outdoor location) with a kendo buddy, or two, or three...
But don't waste your time jigeikoing with each other if you are at the same level, just do uchikomigeiko. Jigeikoing with your peers may be fun, but is not as educational as jigeikoing with sensei/sempais.
Also, make sure you guys don't learn any bad habits!
re: fumikomi - wear your shoes, nike air works well. :D

I've practiced kata on a beach before... it was windy, and kind of raining, so it didn't last long. It was nice nontheless... ^____^
