I was browsing some Kumdo sites and saw two federations:
Korean Kumdo Association (affiliated with the IKF) http://www.kumdo.org
And then the Korean Kumdo Federation for Social Members http://www.kumdos.org
any major difference... I mean, yeah, i know what we can infer by the title of the second one, but anyone know the cold facts? The logo on the second site looks the same as to the one from the first.
please don't bother to reply if you're just going to speculate.

Kumdo Federation for Social members is governed by the KKA. Theres also a Korean University Kumdo Federation also governed by the KKA.
Basically thats their social league.
The police, corporations and government dojangs are the competitive members. Although I do know that Nokia has a team in the social federation.
There are a heap of dojangs in Korea.

ah, i see that's what I thought.
so if the police, corporations, and government dojangs are the most competetive, are they also listed on the kumdo.org page?
I see there's a lot of dojangs listed in seoul, but it seems hard to browse through the list to find the most competetive and strongest ones. Any suggestions to find them?

I'll try and get a straight answer from Master Hwang, Young Ae. She is one of the officers of the Korean Kumdo Federation for Social Members. But from what I can gather, the Korean Kumdo Association is the governing body of Kumdo in Korea. I get the idea that the competitive dojangs are well known, but not by many foreigners. I know that Master Hwang is a member of one of the more famouse dojangs here in Seoul, Poong Whal Tong (SP???). It is on the south side of the Han and fairly close to the Seoul City Procecutors Office. I am working with Master Hwang to help clarify for foreigners the dojangs around the city. If anyone is interested I can e-mail what we have so far.
