Hello everyone

I'm new to Kendo and to every place else on this forum :) So here's my questions:

1. Do I have to join MWKF/AUSKF to be promoted?
2. When and where do I get promotion exames?

I could've just ask my sensei, but I only see him a week, and it feels completely annoying and stupid to ask questions about that to a sensei whom you see only once a week. Instead, I asked more about the practice related topics. Thanks much for your 2 cents :)

MWKF means MidWest Kendo Federation, right?

1) Yes, you need to join AUSKF in order to have your rank (shodan+) recognized by IKF.

2) When/where depends on your federation's yearly seminar schedule. I do not belong to MWKF but to SWKIF. Here, we usually have two seminars a year (one in the spring and one in the fall). There is usually a shinsa at both seminars. Or you can travel to AUSKF's yearly summer camp or special event.

If your sensei/sempai is affiliated with MWKF, he would know best when seminars are held in your federation.

I explain all of this on the students first day of kendo. Doesn't mean they remember. If you are Cochran sensei' student I am sure he would just a well you ask him these things than asking this forum.

Hi jmarsten

Sensei Cochran didn't explain this at all when I started, well I don't want to be asking stupid stuff like this as a beginner since I should be focusing on my basics first. This is just information I'd like to know, besides that, I'm just bored at work :)

Thanks though

Thanks thoughIf you don't know then there are probably others with the same question. If you ask then all will know. This is an opportunity as it could become part of the basic information that is given to new students..
By asking you will have helped everyone.
