kendo for sure has a kiai. it is representative of your spirit.i dont have a sound recorder but it kind of sounds like a loud scream. almost an actual word but not.
just kidding. i have no idea what it sounds like.

I'm sure you can replace kiai by something in the bible.

Hi John...

Yes, the Kiai is an important part of Kendo... it serves the dual purpose of drawing together your mind and body at the moment of attack and also un-nerving your opponent (or sending them into paroxysms of laughter... which is just as useful....!).

There has been a lot written about the significance of the Kiai and the specific sounds used... and there is a significant school of thought that contends that the sounds used should be varied depending on the social context / country...

Just a thought... has anyone got any opinions about the possible links between a Kiai and infrasound?

Do a search on this forum for Kiai... or Google Kiai or Kiai-Jutsu...

cheers

LOL... I do Kiais in karate class. It has very little to actually do with the spiritual side of things. It helps to tighten proper muscules at the proper time. basiclly the same principle as a grunt or scream while lifting something extremely heavy. plus it scare people.

I'm sure you can replace kiai by something in the bible.

...You know...it's 2:45 AM here right now and I am extremely tempted to just do my Kiai into this microphone here and wake up my entire family...but...you know...domestic disturbance with the child abuse with the hitting and the slapping and the punching...oi...it's just a problem waiting to happen.

I have to say that Neil's kiai is great both in the dojo and at the "second dojo"! Always a great motivator!

Thanks for sharing the laughs, Neil.

For the record, and I don't have it in .wav format, my kiai is just the word "hai", drawn out to an extended yell. I tell myself "Yes, you can!".

hahah Talking about kiai, last practice my Sensei made us took only one breath and do one Kirikaeshi for us newbies, and then our sempai had to do two kirikaeshi with one breath. That was fun :D

you could always throw your 'statch at them and hit them in the eye...
